Great Gatsby Actor Joins Ben Kingsley For Our Robot Overlords

Are you one of the many complaining about the lack of original stories being made into movies? Well, then you might appreciate the upcoming British offering Our Robot Overlords, a coming-of-age tale set in the midst of a dramatic battle between man and machine. Co-written and directed by Jon Wright, who has previously helmed the alien invasion comedy Grabbers and the horror-comedy Tormented, this sci-fi adventure centers on a teen boy who with the help of his peers goes in search of his long lost father as a war between mankind and robots rages around them. But the teen boy is encouraged to join the fray when he uncovers the secret to bringing these brawling bots down!

THR reports Wright has landed Aussie up-and-comer Callan McAuliffe to front the film as its teen protagonist. McAuliffe has appeared in a couple of American productions, including Rob Reiner's 2010 romance Flipped, DreamWorks' fantasy-drama I Am Number Four, and Baz Luhrmann's impending The Great Gatsby, in which he plays the teen version of Leonardo DiCaprio's title character. In short, Our Robot Overlords could be giving the young actor his most eye-catching role to date.

The $21 million science fiction feature also stars Ben Kingsley, who recently riled fanboys as The Mandarin in Iron Man 3, and sci-fi icon/X-Files star Gillian Anderson. Unfortunately, no details on their roles have yet been released. However, with production on Our Robot Overlords kicking off in Ireland on June 3rd, we suspect more casting notices will soon emerge, and with them further details on this intriguing sci-fi venture.
