Official Wolverine 3 Script Page Reveals Some Fascinating Details

Old Man Logan

Considering the fact that Wolverine 3 is less than a year away (hitting theaters in March 2017), we know next to nothing about the anticipated sequel, which very well may be Hugh Jackman's final run in the role. Casting notices have been official, but the movie lacks a proper title, and no footage has been screened. Today, though, Wolverine 3 director James Mangold teased fans with Page Two of his screenplay, and if you squint, you will find a lot of interesting details.

Let's break down a few of the most important details on this page.

One of the first things Logan (Hugh Jackman) says is "Fuck." Seeing as how the MPAA only allows two before they slap an R rating on movies -- stupid as that may seem -- I think this solidifies the fact that Wolverine 3 will be an R-rated affair. The fights in this movie are going to be grounded, realistic, and full of consequences. As Mangold lays out in the liner notes of the script, "People will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. ... Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won't bounce. They will die." So the physicality of most comic-book blockbusters is on hold for Wolverine 3, which also negates a lot of what happened in, say, X-Men: Origins -- Wolverine, where Logan was indestructible.Wolverine's older. And an alcoholic. He drinks because his healing powers are fading, so he's in a constant state of pain. This confirms, to a certain extent, that Wolverine 3 will attempt some version of the Old Man Logan storyline, though one that likely differs from the traditional comic-book story. He also might not survive, as Mangold writes, "So by all means, go ahead and worry about him."

The script page also reveals a band of villains that Logan will run into right off the bat in this screenplay. They are referred to as Bangers, which isn't a group or association that I'm overly familiar with (so if they are part of the comics, let me know in the comments). And one member, "Jitters," is going to fire something at Logan and knock him off his feet. The leader of the pack is going to yell at Jitters for firing -- yelling at him in Spanish, which is interesting -- and when Logan tries to retaliate, they are able to overcome him, mainly because Wolverine is drunk.

Needless to say, this is a great start for a third Wolverine movie, and with James Mangold sharing this bit -- and Hugh Jackman promising a reveal in the coming days -- I feel like a Wolverine 3 trailer is primed and ready to pop. With it, we likely will get a title, and more confirmation about when this movie takes place, how Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) is involved, and more. Wolverine 3 opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
