Tyrese Gibson Just Went Off About The Rock And Fast And Furious Again

fast and furious 9

Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson has been quite outspoken over the past few months, especially after rumors that The Rock and Jason Statham could do a franchise spinoff surfaced. Well, just this week, the studio announced that Fast and Furious 9 is being pushed back nearly a year, with no specific reason mentioned for the date change. Now Gibson has come out swinging, claiming Dwayne Johnson is the reason the movie had to be delayed. It's the latest in a series of issues Gibson has had with his co-star. You can check out the post, below.

Congratulations to The Rock and your brother in law aka 7 Bucks producing partner for making The Fast and the Furious franchise about YOU - And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post - Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah... it's about #TeamDewayne. 3 yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I'm just a passionate film critic.

There's a lot of hashtags in that, but basically Tyrese Gibson seems to be intimating that Fast and Furious 9 pushed back its release date directly due to Dwayne Johnson. Gibson seems to think this has to do with the fact that the production company is putting Dwayne Johnson's needs above the rest of the crew, although whether he believes that is because of that rumored spinoff or simply accommodating Dwayne Johnson's insane schedule isn't clear. What is clear is that there are major unity problems between the two cast members, and this isn't even the first issue an actor has had with Johnson on the set, as there was reported beef between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson previously, as well.

Prior to the recent Instagram post, Tyrese Gibson spoke out about how he wholeheartedly hates the idea of a Hobbs spinoff. His reasons at the time included that he felt that Dwayne Johnson was ignoring some alluded to heart-to-heart moment they had about the franchise, as well as the fact that Johnson wasn't responding to Gibson's queries. (He had been vocal about the Vin Diesel issues.) Those posts were later deleted, which is presumably why Gibson says he won't delete the one above. Now, he also seems to be indicating that he feels a three-year time gap will be a disservice to the fans.

Fast and Furious fans doubtless might be irritated about having to wait a whole year longer for the next movie, but this situation is still a social media mess. Especially given that we don't know whether a Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham spinoff is even coming. Plus, even if it does come, there are probably a lot of fans who would be happy with the franchise trying something new, similar to how the Transformers franchise is giving Bumblebee his own spinoff.

If the movie is simply getting pushed back because of Dwayne Johnson's schedule, I can see how that might be annoying to the cast members who rely on the franchise for big paychecks, but even in that case, this simply means the paychecks are going to be spread out over a long period. Tyrese Gibson and co. will still make the same amount of money whether the movie comes out in 2019 or 2020. In addition, reports about the date change have also mentioned that Johnson may not even be back for the ninth movie.

To get an idea of the insane number of projects Dwayne Johnson has coming up, check out our list of the upcoming The Rock movies. In the meantime, let's find out who would be happy about a Fast and Furious spinoff.
