Zac Efron is a pretty big name in Hollywood at this point. This year he starred in both Baywatch and The Greatest Showman, the latter of which is currently in theaters, and he has a gig as Ted Bundy coming up. Even though Efron is currently a pretty big deal in the movie business, he hasn't forgotten his roots and recently he had a nice surprise for his hometown of Arroyo Grande, California. The actor actually bought out multiple showings of The Greatest Showman in his hometown.
The Fair Oaks Theatre was the one that Zac Efron reportedly attended growing up. So, when The Greatest Showman hit the theater over the holidays, he headed to the box office and bought out three entire showings of the new musical film at the Fair Oaks Theatre. The showings happened on Thursday, December 28 and any moviegoers choosing to head to the theater that day were able to catch the new Hugh Jackman, Zendaya and Efron starrer for free.
Zac Efron's mother, Starla Baskett told The Tribune that the gesture came from the heart, noting,
He just wanted to do something nice for the town he grew up in and the theater he frequented. It was fun and he surprised many people.
Speaking of The Greatest Showman, Efron also told the outlet that he actually caught the new musical movie for the first time with his mother, noting that the film as a whole was a hard flick to achieve.
I was sitting next to my mom. It just brought me back to that overwhelming feeling of joy that I've always gotten from music and from musicals... (Director) Michael Gracey really accomplished what he set out to do -- that was (to) make a truly original musical, which is very, very hard to do these days.
