James Gunn is a busy man as of late. The filmmaker is currently in the midst of promoting his latest feature, Warner Bros. and DC’s The Suicide Squad, while he’s also overseeing post-production of the spinoff prequel series, Peacemaker. And if that weren’t enough he’s currently prepping to shoot both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the Holiday Special. Though he has plenty on his plate, he also has a lot to celebrate as the US premiere of The Suicide Squad has coincided with the anniversary of the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
This weekend, James Gunn took a moment to commemorate the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, which opened on August 1, 2014. The filmmaker did so by taking to his Twitter account and posting a sweet throwback of him happily standing alongside a few of the film’s stars. You can check out the sweet post down below:
It’s honestly hard to believe that so much time has passed since James Gunn first unleashed his cosmic band of lovable a-holes on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you’re like me, then you can probably remember the first time you laid your eyes on the fantastic film. It was a cinematic experience for the ages, which is why the characters remain so beloved years later.
Of course, presently, James Gunn will seek to do the same thing with the villain-filled Task Force X in The Suicide Squad. So far, he seems to be succeeding, as the movie has gained highly positive reviews. Needless to say, Gunn has a lot of momentum going into the US premiere tonight. Check out his appreciative message down below:
James Gunn is certainly correct when he mentions that the past year and a half has been rough. While there’s still room for improvement in the country’s (and the world’s) current situation, the release of The Suicide Squad should be a nice moment for those looking for an escape. And viewers will have options when it comes to viewing the movie. This includes watching on HBO Max, which you can sign up for using this link.
The strong reviews and buzz surrounding The Suicide Squad bode well for James Gunn, and some may already be wondering if he’ll be up to helm another DCEU film down the line. Nothing seems set in stone at the moment but, at the very least, it seems as though he has had conversations with the powers that be at Warner Bros.
