Ryan Reynolds Reveals Hilarious Hugh Jackman Prank That He Never Followed Through With

Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy and Thandiwe Newton with Hugh Jackman in Reminiscence, side by side

The comedic feud between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman looks like it’ll never end, which is probably a good thing because it’s so funny to keep track of. So many acts of not-so-kindness have transpired between the respective leads of Free Guy and Reminiscence that you could spend a lot of time reliving most of the action. But one prank that never did happen was quite possibly the most disgusting idea that Reynolds could have ever hatched for his would-be nemesis, and it has to do with old Band-Aids.

Ryan Reynolds divulged the details of this prank on The Jess Cagle Podcast with Julia Cunningham, as Cagle actually revealed a prank that Hugh Jackman was going to play on the Free Guy star for his birthday. If you’re a fan of Billy Madison, Jackman’s big scheme is going to sound familiar, for sure. However, Ryan Reynolds’ hypothetical retaliation is on a similar level of ick, as here’s how he would have countered:

First of all, only Hugh Jackman would call it dog poo, it's dog shit, Hugh, let's get with the program here. Um, and you know, this year I had this great shot that I was going to send him. I was going to send him like a sushi platter, but the whole thing was just made out of old Band-aids.

Should you be a person to be keeping score on the “shit v. poo” debate, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are tallied in that specific order. But moving past that issue, “the great guy” of Free Guy has yet again delivered a creatively twisted method of revenge, which would have required either a Deadpool’s worth of minor injuries or a lot of time and patience. Either way, this is yet another example of just how much fun Reynolds and Jackman are having with this particular spat of theirs.

Running ever since the two X-Men alums met on the set of X-Men: Origins - Wolverine, the Bugs and Daffy-style of antagonism that’s persisted between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds has also done a lot of good. While it’s given both men plenty of opportunities to plug films and brands they both have to sell to the world, there’s even been some charitable work that’s come from the Jackman/Reynolds feud. While their personas within this ecosystem of playful joking clash with the fire of a thousand suns, the worst kept secret is the fact that both actors are actually really nice guys.

But don’t let that distract you from how Free Guy and Reminiscence are both coming to theaters within a week of each other. That’s the sort of thinking that’ll keep you from seeing whatever the next turn in the story happens to be, and you can bet Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman haven’t forgotten that fact for a second. There’s still business to be done and pranks that need to be executed in the name of this carefree battleground, so who knows what’ll happen next?

What we do know is that if you want to see Ryan Reynolds being sweet and adorable, Free Guy will give you the passport to such a thing starting this Thursday night. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman is heading into the broody noir of Reminiscence, which opens in theaters and on HBO Max next week. So there may be some sort of pranks involving video games and memory based technology in the months to come.
