Kim Kardashian West is trying to score an appointment with the president. But the media personality isn't converting herself into being a Donald Trump supporter -- unlike her husband, Kanye West. Instead, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians figurehead is meeting her fellow reality TV star for a selfless cause: to continue her efforts to free her imprisoned great-grandmother, Alice Marie Johnson. They're meeting today to get Johnson's prison time reduced, as the inmate is in the middle of a life sentence in the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama, where Johnson has served time since 1997.
Alice Marie Johnson's freedom and/or reduced prison sentence is something Kim Kardashian West has been working on with Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, for months now, according to TMZ. Now, all three parties believe it's time to get President Donald Trump involved too. Kim Kardashian West hasn't made it a secret that she supported Hillary Clinton in the most recent election. However, Trump is willing to meet with Kim since Ivanka is behind this case. That said, as mentioned before, Kanye West and his vocal support for Trump probably influenced this meeting as well.
Don't expect to see this meeting covered on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, however. Rumor has it, Kim Kardashian West went to the White House with only her attorney, Shawn Holley, beside her. No camera crews or reporters joined the media star inside the Oval Office. But that wasn't the case when Kourtney Kardashian visited Washington, D.C. to speak with Congress last month. Joined by the Keeping Up with the Kardashians camera crew, the eldest Kardashian sister spoke out about cosmetics, specifically regulating cosmetic laws, along with other care products, inside the United States.
Alice Marie Johnson was given a life sentence in 1997 on money laundering and drug conspiracy charges. It was her first offense. Kim Kardashian West has been adamant about providing Johnson with a pardon. It became a national conversation when Kardashian tweeted about it last year, sparking interest from her legion of followers. Johnson is very appreciative of Kardashian's ongoing efforts, as the great-grandmother wrote Kardashian a loving letter thanking her for her continued, vigorous support. With this recent White House meeting, it's possible Johnson's freedom might be found soon.
Beyond this recent White House meeting, Kim Kardashian West continues to find herself in the news -- just like President Donald Trump himself. Recently, Kim Kardashian West earned some backlash for advertising appetite suppressants on Instagram. Additionally, Kanye West always finds himself in the national conversation one way or another. Most recently, West garnered controversy last week for the cover art for Pusha-T's newest studio album, Daytona, which featured a private photo of the late Whitney Houston's bathroom from 2006.
