Fiona Apple Cancels Tour To Care For Dying Dog

Fiona Apple has always prided herself on being a bit of a mystery. Whether giving some of her albums names so long they have to be abridged or calling the world “bullshit” during an acceptance speech early in her career, the singer has never been a woman overly concerned with public perception. As it relates to her upcoming tour, however, she would like her fans in South America to know exactly why she’s decided to cancel on them.

When Apple was twenty-one, she rescued a dog and named her Janet. For almost fourteen years, Janet has been her closest companion and the only constant presence in her life. Through relationships, break-ups, highs and lows, they’ve done everything together, but over the past few weeks, Janet has gotten sicker and sicker. The end is near, and when that day comes, Apple wants to be there. So, she’s decided to postpone all of the dates to sort out her personal life.

Apple made the announcement on her Facebook, and you can take a look at a portion of her touching, long-winded note below…

”These are the choices we make, which define us.I will not be the woman who puts her career ahead of love and friendship.I am the woman who stays home and bakes Tilapia for my dearest, oldest friend.”

More than likely, there will be plenty of tours in Apple’s future, but these moments with Janet are fleeting. Here’s to hoping she takes advantage of every last one of those bonding experiences and when the right time comes, is strong enough to know when to let go.

Whenever Apple returns to the stage, her loyal fans will be waiting.
