Reunions and revivals are all the rage on TV nowadays, and few series seem completely out of the question when it comes to possibly returning to the small screen for another go. Now, some very good news has broken for fans of USA's long-running (and hilarious) series Psych. The cast is getting back together for a big reunion that will air in this December. Happy Holidays, Psychos!
The Psych reunion will be a two-hour movie event, appropriately called Psych: The Movie, and it will bring back all the familiar faces we came to know and love over the eight seasons of the series. James Roday will be back as Shawn and Dule Hill will be back as Gus, so we don't have to worry that the classic dynamic will be missing in the reunion. Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, and Kirsten Nelson will all reprise their roles as well. Roday co-wrote the movie with creator Steve Franks, who will also direct.
Psych: The Movie will pick up three years after the series finale, according to USA, which is rather appropriate given that the finale aired back in 2014. The crew will come together after an enigmatic bad guy crashes their holiday plans by targeting one of them. They'll have to figure out who is behind the crimes, catch the culprit, and then presumably come together at the end for a happy ending, because this is a Psych holiday special, and how could a Psych holiday special end in any way that isn't jolly and funny?
The news of Psych: The Movie comes not too long after Dule Hill weighed in on the possibility of a Psych revival. At the time, Hill said he thought "there's definitely something coming" and that he was hoping "Steve Franks and the whole USA team will come together and make something happen." His message to Psychos was simply to hold on; for those of us who have been holding on, confirmation of a TV movie is a big relief. Sure, it's no miniseries revival or surprise extra season, but I'll take it. I'm just glad USA is able to bring all of the old crowd back together again.
No official premiere date for Psych: The Movie has yet been announced, although Dule Hill will be back on USA long before December thanks to a major role on the hit series Suits.
