Daredevil Season 3 Is Bringing Everybody’s Favorite Villain Back

Netflix kicked off its own corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2015 with the first season of Daredevil, which was enough of a hit that a number of other superhero series got the green light. The second season took the series in some new directions, and a third season is in the works to pay off on that insane Defenders cliffhanger. Now, we have some exciting news about what else is to come in Season 3. Wilson Fisk will be back in the next batch of episodes.

Vincent D'Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil Season 3. Fans will remember him as the main villain of Season 1, and it's probably safe to say that Daredevil would not have become the hit it did without D'Onofrio as the big bad. Daredevil managed to put Fisk behind bars at the end of the season, and he only briefly appeared in Season 2 when the action shifted to a prison for Frank Castle to go on an epically bloody rampage.

It's not clear at this point just how much Fisk we'll get in Season 3, although we have to hope that it's more than the quick Season 2 appearance. A lot may depend on whether or not he stays behind bars. His appearance in Season 2 made sense, as Frank was a major new character and he happened to be in prison. If Fisk is going to have a prominent role, he'll probably need to get out of the clink. Whether this is because he's able to pull strings or because he escapes would remain to be seen; he's clearly still a powerful man despite the incarceration.

The news from Marvel of Vincent D'Onofrio's return will be a relief for fans who have been waiting and wondering if Fisk would be back for Daredevil's next adventure. D'Onofrio revealed last year that he'd be game to return for more Daredevil, but he made it clear that he was not going to appear in The Defenders. Personally, I didn't miss Fisk in The Defenders, as the season was already packed with a bunch of characters from all four previous shows of Netflix's Marvel universe, but it's good to know that we can count on seeing him again when Daredevil is back.

The only bad news is that there's no word when we can expect Daredevil to return with a new batch of episodes. The Punisher is the next Marvel series with new episodes on Netflix, and we know that Luke Cage and Jessica Jones will probably be back in 2018. We may have to just wait and see when it comes to Daredevil. Given the cliffhanger of The Defenders, fans everywhere are definitely anxious to learn what happens next.

You can catch some Daredevil characters (although not Fisk) back in action when The Punisher debuts on Friday, November 17 at 12:01 a.m. PT on Netflix. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for other superhero news.
