Trolls, Boss Baby And More Are Getting TV Spinoffs At Netflix

Branch and Poppy Trolls Dreamworks Animation

Netflix and DreamWorks Animation have had a thing going on for awhile, but they're really going all in with their latest deal. 2018 will be a loaded year in animated programming, and DreamWorks is primed to bring Trolls, The Boss Baby, Captain Underpants spinoffs as well as new potential franchise Harvey Street Kids all to the streaming platform. In short, 2018 might be the year kids stream Netflix more than adults, because all these new shows sound pretty great.

Trolls fans won't have long to wait at all for the new show since, beginning January 19, they'll be able to see DreamWorks Trolls: The Beat Goes On! on Netflix. The series is said to pick up where the film left off with Poppy, Branch, and the rest of the Troll village keeping the party rolling. Lots of singing is to be expected, and there's enough music in this show for a CD to be currently available for pre-order, so any parents with Trolls obsessed kids might want to jump on that. As most will notice in the trailer, this is an animated and not CGI adventure, but the series appears to have kept its spirit despite the style change:

Considering how successful the Trolls franchise has been for DreamWorks since its release, it's not all that surprising that the company is making a series for Netflix. The recent Trolls holiday special killed it in the ratings and even outranked some holiday classics that have been the go-to shows for families during the holiday season. Given that, it's hard to think DreamWorks Trolls: The Beat Goes On! will be anything less than a success for Netflix.

Boss Baby Alec Baldwin

The same can be said for The Boss Baby: Back In Business, seeing as how the franchise's first film had a good enough run at the box office to justify a sequel. Boss Baby will make his comeback in this series, and with the help of his big brother Tim, will continue his climb through Baby Corp. No specific premiere date has been set for the project yet, but it will hit Netflix before 2018 draws to a close.

The same goes for two other animated shows that will arrive on Netflix, as DreamWorks has a show for Captain Underpants and new potential franchise Harvey Street Kids on the schedule as well. The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants will seek to continue the adventures of the film based on the books by Dav Pilkey and is sure to send any kid into fits of laughter with its ridiculousness. Harvey Street Kids will follow three best friends, Audrey, Lotta, and Dot and their adventures as they look to make Harvey Street the best block for kids to live on. As a new property, Harvey Street Kids might have a harder time than others finding its audience, but if its good kids will surely find it.

As mentioned, all of these shows, including Part 3 of Trollhunter and a new Tales of Arcadia series titled 3 Below, will hit Netflix in 2018.
