Blindspot's Luke Mitchell Joins New CBS Drama After Recasting
Blindspot's Luke Mitchell just scored a new gig that will have him take over the lead of the upcoming CBS drama The Code. Mitchell will be replacing actor Dave Annable, who played the leading role in the pilot.
According to Deadline, when The Code was picked up to series in May, it was already decided that previous male lead Dave Annable and Mira Sorvino, who'd had a major co-starring role in the pilot, would leave the show. Luke Mitchell was seen as an early standout during the recasting process, and eventually won over both CBS and producing studio CBS TV Studios.
The Code will focus on a superior group of Judge Advocate General (JAG) attorneys who must all prove their worth not only as prosecutors and defense lawyers, but also as investigators and Marines. The team will face legal challenges from their home base in Quantico, as well as going out with active deployments where they will have to work together under extreme circumstances while figuring out the truth at any cost.
Luke Mitchell, who is best known for his work on Blindspot as Jane's biological brother (and former terrorist organization member), Roman, will play Capt. John "Abe" Abraham on The Code. Abe comes from a long line of Marines, and is a driven and ambitious prosecutor who goes about his work with great dedication and passion. Mitchell has also appeared in 7 Minutes, Mothers and Daughters, The Tomorrow People and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. among other projects.
Well, the part of Abe sounds like a pleasant departure from that of Roman. While Mitchell's Blindspot character was also a force to be reckoned with, that was largely because his primary instinct was to kill anyone who got in his way. Luke Mitchell brought a definitive intensity to his work as the moody, impatient and complex Roman, a man who was known for his lack of empathy and a severe inability to love or even form truly close connections with those around him. So, it'll be a treat to watch Mitchell use those skills on a character with a less troubling personality.
Mitchell will be joined on The Code, which is set to debut on CBS sometime at midseason, by Anna Wood, Ato Essandoh, Phillipa Soo and Raffi Barsoumian.
