Who does Lagertha feel is “destined” to rule Kattegat on Vikings, according to Katheryn Winnick? Well, the actress shared her thoughts in the lead-up to the release of Vikings: Season 5 Volume 2 Blu-ray/DVD set on October 8, which guarantees fans the chance to relive Bjorn’s quest to overthrow Ivar.

Vikings’ power struggle spanned the second half, lasting all the way to the end of Season 5, as a new leader was declared. Bjorn defeated Ivar, and Lagertha returned to Kattegat to proclaim her son the King. Was she feeling a bit wistful in doing so? Katheryn Winnick weighed in to CinemaBlend, telling me this:

You know, I think if there’s anyone, she's also in a stage of her life now that she has lost so many and helped battle through a lot of hardships in her life, that if anyone she feels would be destined to have an opportunity to be king, would be her son Bjorn. She believes in her son as a mother and she believes that she has raised him right with Ragnar and he has been through the trenches of, or pure enough, rather to have the same goals, which is really expand the Viking settlement and find, you know, better land to be able to farm, and to be able to provide for the people, so she feels that Bjorn still has the same goals that she does. Hopefully. She's hopeful at least.

Bjorn certainly seems up to the task, as fans who relive the second half of the season’s action via the Vikings: Season 5 Volume 2 Blu-ray/DVD set will know well! Lagertha and Bjorn went through a lot again last season before coming out on top. The series’ sixth and final season is approaching.

Katheryn Winnick’s insight into Lagertha’s faith in Bjorn moving forward bodes well for the King of Kattegat. His parents were both its leaders at different points in his life (and on Vikings). So, he has that going for him. The Vikings: Season 5 Volume 2 Blu-ray/DVD set will give fans the chance to reacquaint themselves with how he became King.

That is certainly something worth doing as the wait for Vikings’ next season wears on. There are extended versions of all of Season 5B’s ten episodes. Plus, deleted and extended scenes like the one between Lagertha and her doomed lover, Heahmund.

Audio commentary from Vikings’ creator, Michael Hirst, and series star, Gustaf Skarsgard (Floki), is another bonus. In the realm of featurettes, the Blu-ray/DVD set has “The Epic War of Ragnar’s Sons” and “The King and the Warrior Bishop.”

Lagertha and Bjorn still have a lot of adventures left ahead of them. Vikings’ creator, Michael Hirst, had discussed how powerful Lagertha’s bond was with Bjorn. He also opened up about Ivar’s travel plans at the end of Season 5 and if fans had seen the last of Rollo.

Vikings: Season 5 Volume 2 Blu-ray/DVD set will release on October 8. Season 6 of Vikings has not received a premiere date yet, so stay tuned. It will eventually air on History! In the meantime, there will be a lot of fall premieres making their way to television.
