Peacock is coming! Yes, the soon-to-be home of The Office and that Saved by the Bell revival is on its way. How much is it going to cost you to subscribe to NBC’s new streaming service? In a world where you have to budget for the myriad of streamers vying for your dollar, there is good news. Peacock is not super expensive.
The price depends on what version of Peacock you want. There will be three! As its title suggests, Peacock Free will cost $0, but there are ads. Next up is the also ad-supported Peacock Premium. This "more robust" option will be free to Comcast and Cox Cable subscribers and $5 per month for others, per Deadline. What about option #3?
The third version is ad-free, and it will cost those not subscribed to Comcast and Cox -- $10. However, subscribers of those services will pay half of that at $5 a month. Time to put that number in perspective! For those who have no deal with either Comcast or Cox, Peacock’s cost comes at just over $3 more than Disney+, which launched at $6.99 per month.
Peacock is obviously pricier. In comparison, Apple TV+ costs subscribers even less at $5 a month, a competitive pricing plan that Disney’s Bob Iger addressed without much concern. Disney brought its entire vault into the game, which includes more than a few familiar properties. Not to worry because Peacock is planning to leverage a sizable library of content in its own right.
Netflix will be losing The Office to NBCUniversal’s streaming service, which was a prized property that Netflix nevertheless may not be anxious about no longer having, but Peacock is ready to cash in on. After all, this is The Office we are talking about, and it has a devoted audience. Peacock will also have its share of original content to offer prospective subscribers.
Along with old favorites, Peacock will be the home of Shameless vet, Emmy Rossum’s new show, Angelyne. The Originals’ Joseph Morgan is also starring in a new series initially set to land at USA Network before it was moved over to Peacock. Again, there will be no shortage of content to choose from when the streamer arrives on Xfinity X1 and Flex video platforms in April.
Netflix’s boss has said users will keep adding rather than cancel the streaming giant. Will that be the case when Peacock makes its debut? Time will tell. In a survey last year, Peacock did not manage to dominate the competition in terms of demand. That is just one survey. Things may be a lot different when the streamer gets even closer to arriving.
