Legacies' Big Josie Secret Is Out, And Things Look Bad For The Salvatore School

Josie Legacies The CW

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Legacies episode "There's A Place Where The Lost Things Go." Read at your own risk!

Josie Saltzman took in a lot of black magic to help her family escape the Prison World, and as Kai Parker foresaw, the decision had devastating consequences on Legacies. Josie has been harboring that dark magic within her ever since, and as was previously teased, it has taken on a mind of its own. Josie had kept that side of hers on the down low, but now the jig is up and things are looking very bad for the Salvatore School.

The exposure came through Emma's group exercise, which involved putting the students in a film noir world to help deal with the recent traumas they'd all faced. Every student dropped out of the story if they "died" or said their safe word, though Josie was the sole exception. As Lizzie and the group found out later, that's because there were two Josies in the simulation, and only one of them was someone they recognized.

Lizzie was ultimately saved from dark Josie's wrath via Hope's last minute intervention. Once out of the simulation, the two filled everyone else in on the plan and Josie was moved to a cell until they could talk to her and figure it all out. Once Josie awoke, Lizzie apologized for being so self-consumed and not recognizing the black magic that was within her twin sister sooner. Unfortunately, they all soon learned they weren't talking to Josie, but the dark Josie alter ego who wasn't about to be put behind bars.

Dark Josie incapacitated Hope with a sleeping spell, changed herself into a trendy outfit, and then used her magic to lift her entire cell off the ground. The next scene showed Dark Josie walking in slow motion out of the front doors of the Salvatore School, with the entire academy exploding in flames behind her. At this point, it seemed like everyone else was still inside the school, so this could be a bad situation.

With that being said, the synopsis for next week's episode, called "Life Was So Much Easier When I Only Cared About Myself," makes it seem like Josie's fire was more dramatic than devastating. Lizzie was hanging out with the rest of the main cast when that fire broke out, so if she, Hope, and Ric are okay, chances are everyone else is as well. Here's what's in store:

When things take a dark turn on the twins' 17th birthday, Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) is left to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) takes drastic measures when she and Alaric (Matthew Davis) clash over how to handle an issue involving Josie (Kaylee Bryant). Finally, Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) makes a heartbreaking discovery.

I'm assuming that difficult decision Lizzie faces doesn't involve whether or not she's inviting Josie to share the party. It is interesting to hear Hope is going to resort to some drastic measures and go against Ric. It also feels incredibly stupid to me, considering the raw power Josie displayed in that grand escape. Could Hope find herself in some real danger breaking away from Ric's guidance?

Legacies airs on The CW Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for more updates on the series, and for the latest goings-on in television and movies.
