Looks Like Disney Isn't Done With The Family Singalong Just Yet

Disney managed to give viewers a bit of magic during these unusual times with The Disney Family Singalong. The television event brought together various stars who, from their homes, performed songs from various Disney films. Ultimately, the special proved to be a ratings success, and it would appear Disney isn’t ready to move away from the format just yet.

ABC has announced that a musical follow-up called The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II, which is set to air on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 10, at 7 p.m. EST. Ryan Seacrest is set to return as host, though no featured celebrities or songs have been revealed at this time.

In the days following its debut on ABC, The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II will also be available to stream on Disney+, like its predecessor. As of now, the show’s Disney+ release date has yet to be confirmed.

In addition to showcasing more classic Disney tunes, the event is also set to highlight the efforts of Feeding America, following the lead of the original special.

It honestly comes as no surprise that Disney and ABC have opted to continue The Disney Family Singalong. The solid ratings and the social media buzz that surrounded make the choice a no-brainer on the network’s part.

The original special included a large slate of talent who put their own spin on some of Disney’s most iconic songs. This included Josh Groban’s take on Toy Story’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” and Beyoncé’s rendition of “When You Wish Upon A Star" from Pinocchio. Luke Evans and Josh Gad even reprised their Beauty and the Beast roles to perform “Gaston.”

But one of the biggest highlights of the evening had to be the High School Musical reunion. The event say director Kenny Ortega join Vanessa Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman Lucas Grabeel and other HSM stars for a rendition of “We’re All In This Together.” Unfortunately for fans, series lead Zac Efron was unable to participate in the singalong, but he did introduce his co-stars in a pre-recorded video.

Of course, going into this sequel special, there’s still the matter of the stars who will be involved and the songs that will be featured -- and both topics are pretty hard to predict. With Disney’s vast cast musical catalog available, almost anything could be up for grabs. But since the show is taking place on Mother’s Day, it may take a more maternal and sentimental approach. This could mean “Mother Knows Best” from Tangled or Tarzan’s “You’ll Be in My Heart” could be on the docket.

Whatever happens, it’ll be interesting to see what’s being planned for The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II. And while you wait for it to premiere, you can stream the original Disney Family Singalong on Disney+.
