The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal Reportedly In Costume More For Season 2, But Does That Matter?

The second season of The Mandalorian is on the way to reveal what comes next for Mando and Baby Yoda in the galaxy far, far away. The Disney+ series has finished filming Season 2 and is expected to hit its planned premiere date, but the show could have some key differences in its second batch of episodes, and not just because a number of familiar faces will evidently appear. The titular Mandalorian, a.k.a. Din Djarin, will reportedly have actor Pedro Pascal suited up more often in Season 2.

The report that Pedro Pascal will be the man behind the Mandalorian mask more in Season 2 comes courtesy of Bespin Bulletin, which has also made reports about other live-action Disney+ Star Wars series. If true, Pascal playing Mando in the flesh could be a very big deal... for Pascal, anyway. Does it matter for viewers?

Whether or not it matters really depends on what The Mandalorian has in store for Mando in Season 2. The show only unmasked him as Din Djarin with Pedro Pascal showing his face once, and that was when his life was in jeopardy in the season finale.

The temporary unmasking seemingly didn't leave Mando with a desire to feel fresh air on his face more often, and he probably would have let himself die if not for the loophole of a droid seeing him without his helmet not counting against the Mandalorian code.

If The Mandalorian Season 2 continues Mando's preference for wearing the helmet, then I don't see it making a difference if Pedro Pascal wears the armor or somebody else stands in while Pascal lends his voice unless it has something to do with awards season.

If, however, The Mandalorian decides Mando is ready to relax rather than wear his helmet for as much of his time as possible, then maybe Pedro Pascal needs to be in the rest of the suit of armor on a regular basis. It would be understandable if he at least took off the helmet on board his ship when he has nobody but Baby Yoda for company, and I can't imagine sleeping in it is very comfortable.

That said, The Mandalorian Season 2 is sending Mando and Baby Yoda off on a presumably dangerous mission to find Baby Yoda's "race of enemy sorcerers," so he might not have much time for chilling out on his ship and sipping bone broth without his helmet.

As much as I like Pedro Pascal and can't imagine Mando with a different voice, I would personally rather Mando wear his helmet almost all the time. The occasional unmasking would be all well and good, and I could be on board with a shot of his face in profile or as he puts the helmet back on after eating, but the helmet is almost as iconic to the show at this point as Baby Yoda.

Besides, Mando just plain looks awesome in the helmet, and if that's not a good reason, I don't know what is. Besides, maybe Pedro Pascal himself is safer with the helmet on! We'll have to wait until Season 2 to find out whether Pedro Pascal will show his face more in the next batch of episodes. The Mandalorian returns for its second season in October 2020. For now, you can find the full first season streaming on Disney+, as well as plenty of other viewing options this summer!
