It’s only been a year since The Big Bang Theory wrapped its 12-season run on CBS and fans are still nostalgic. The cast has since moved on to other projects, with Jim Parsons starring in Netflix’s Hollywood, Kaley Cuoco voicing Harley Quinn on the DC Universe show, and Mayim Bialik headlining a new comedy series called Call Me Kat. However, in looking back on The Big Bang Theory’s run recently, Bialik revealed why she “never” actually watched an episode of the show. Gasp!
Mayim Bialik’s Amy Farrah Fowler arguably changed the character dynamics on The Big Bang Theory for the better. Amy slipped into the already established friend group rather easily, striking up a relationship with Penny and Bernadette. She was also not shy about her feelings for fellow scientist Sheldon Cooper, who was resistant to having any romance at first. While Bialik was on the show for many seasons, she never watched an entire episode of the popular CBS sitcom. Why? Here’s what she told Metro.co.uk:
I’ve never seen most of the episodes. I don’t watch myself on television. I’ve never sat and watched an episode of our show, ever. I’ve seen snippets on stage when they would show them to the audience but no, I don’t watch myself. I saw pieces [of the last episode] but I was in it, you know?
It’s a bit surprising that Mayim Bialik has only seen “snippets” of The Big Bang Theory, especially when you consider that she was on the show for nine seasons. That said, it’s also not entirely unheard of for an actor to not have seen their own shows. I feel like it would be incredibly awkward to watch yourself onscreen, though I’m sure some actors have gotten used to it by now. I’ve had to watch myself on video before and I understand how off-putting it can be.
While Mayim Bialik has never actually seen a full episode of The Big Bang Theory, she admits that filming the series finale was “very emotional” for her and the rest of the cast. And who knows? Perhaps one day Bialik might be nostalgic enough to sit down and watch the sitcom in its entirety.
For the time being, Mayim Bialik’s post-Big Bang work includes starring alongside a tremendous cast in Call Me Kat, which was picked up to series by Fox. The actress will not only play the comedy’s titular role, but she’ll be serving as executive producer alongside former The Big Bang Theory co-star Jim Parsons.
Fans can now binge-watch all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory on HBO Max, the latest streaming service to launch. For more on what to watch in the coming months, be sure to check out our 2020 summer TV premiere guide.
