Jessica Lucas as Tabitha on Gotham

Fans of Fox’s The Resident are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Season 4, which isn’t slated to hit the small screen until next year. In the meantime, fans are left to speculate on what lies ahead for the staff at Chastain Park Memorial. The show will likely answer a number of burning questions about the characters viewers have come to know but, for the upcoming season the show will also be bringing in a few new faces. Now, it appears the most recent addition to the show will be a Gotham alum, and it sounds like she’s going to have a serious temper.

Jessica Lucas is making her return to Fox as a series regular during The Resident Season 4. Per Deadline, Lucas is playing Billie, who was a former top neurosurgery resident at Chastain before a tragic error led to her termination. The character also has a hot temper and a significant ego, which may or may not get her in a bit of trouble. Though her character description admits that she is nearly always “the smartest person in the room.”

Interestingly, Billie also has a history with Emily VanCamp’s Nic, who has loved her since they were kids. With this, Nic wants her to return to Chastain, though one would imagine that this concern for Billie could put Nic at odds with her co-workers at times.

Jessica Lucas, a native of Canada, has been working within the television landscape for a while now, having had lead roles on shows like Life as We Know It and the Melrose Place reboot. As previously alluded to, Lucas has had a prior working relationship with Fox, as she’s starred as one of the leads on the limited series Gracepoint. But she’s probably best known for her villainous role as Tabitha Galivan/Tigress, a character she played for four seasons. While her Resident character doesn’t sound like a villain, Lucas’ experience playing Tabitha should help in formulating Billie’s somewhat volatile attitude.

Jessica Lucas also isn’t the only new star to be joining the fourth season of The Resident. The show is also welcoming How to Get Away with Murder’s Conrad Ricamora, who will play the recurring role of Dr. Jake Wong.

After alluded to the COVID-19 pandemic during the Season 3 finale, The Resident will seemingly spend less time focusing on the situation during its fourth season. The new episodes with see Chastain dealing with a new direction under a new CEO, as the hospital will seek to become a public medical center.

Things seem to be turning around for the better in the new season of The Resident, though it remains to be seen how Jessica Lucas’ Billie might affect these seemingly brighter days. Could her temper put a damper on the somewhat upbeat mood of the season. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The Resident returns to Fox for its fourth season on January 12, 2021.
