Sounds Like Supernatural Alum Jared Padalecki Wants To Play Sam Winchester Again Someday

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester in Supernatural

It’s been a few months since the final episode of Supernatural aired, and the fandom definitely had all the feels. Sam and Dean Winchester were TV staples for 15 years, making Supernatural the longest running CW series ever. Though the longtime fans out there are missing the Winchester brothers, they're not alone, as the cast is feeling the loss, too. Jared Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester, is already feeling nostalgic for his role as the younger Winchester sibling and wouldn’t mind reprising the role when the time is right.

Jared Padalecki may have already moved on to another huge role as the lead in the reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger, but it appears he is already looking ahead to when he may be able to step back into Sam Winchester’s war-torn boots. In an interview with People, Padalecki stressed that he has a deep love for the character and the world of Supernatural, and it's his hope that he will one day get the chance to play Sam again. Here it is in his own words:

I love Supernatural, dearly, I always will. I have a deep and abiding love for Sam Winchester, and I loved helping him come to life for 15 years and 327 episodes… I certainly have it somewhere in the bottom of my heart and soul that I hope September 10 isn't the last time I ever played Sam Winchester.

It’s not surprising that Jared Padalecki is having some major Supernatural withdrawals. The now 38-year-old actor first started playing the role of Sam Winchester when he was 23, which means he worked on the set of Supernatural for the majority of his adult life.

He not only has a connection to the character and fictional universe, but to the people he spent all that time with on set. The bond shared by the cast of Supernatural is one not easily matched by other even long-running shows -- Padalecki even married one of his Supernatural co-stars.

The on and off-screen chemistry of the Supernatural cast may even be one of the reasons the series produced such a strong fandom. Swooning teenage girls have followed the Winchester’s into adulthood, making the new parents of little Deans and Castiels ready to salt doorways at the sign of any cold gusts of air. The fandom has held strong for 15 years, and there's a good chance they’ll be there if any reunion or reboot is to happen in the years to come. By then, a new generation of Supernatural fanatics will be able to join their parents in enjoying the potential return Jared Padalecki is hoping for.

It's hard to say if a reunion will ever happen, but you can rest assured knowing we'll be hoping for it. In the meantime, be sure to check out the great things the Supernatural cast is up to know that the show has finished its run.
