Netflix’s Lucifer is in the midst of filming the sixth and final season and the back half of Season 5 has yet to release, but showrunner Joe Henderson has already found a new project with the streaming service!
Netflix has picked up Shadecraft for a TV adaptation, according to THR. Shadecraft is an upcoming comic book from Image Comics created by artist Lee Garbett and Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson. Henderson will reportedly co-write the pilot with Georgia Lee, a writer-producer on The Expanse and The 100. The two will also executive produce with Garbett as a producer.
Set to release on March 31, the Shadecraft comic “centers on a 16-year-old Zadie Lu, who, on top of dealing with regular high school problems, is worried that shadows are coming to life around her.” The comic is a follow-up to Joe Henderson and Lee Garbett’s Eisner Award-nominated Skyward, which is set 20 years after gravity on Earth suddenly became a fraction of what it is now and follows Willa Fowler, a woman born just after “G-Day” who stumbles into a dangerous plan to bring gravity back that could get her killed.
Joe Henderson is currently the showrunner for Netflix’s Lucifer, a former Fox series before Netflix picked it up after the network cancelled it. The series is starting to wrap production on its final season. Henderson’s previous work credits include Hulu’s Stephen King adaptation 11/22/63 and USA’s White Collar.
It seems as if Joe Henderson can’t get away from the comics, as Lucifer is based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg taken from the comic book series, The Sandman. The series first debuted on Fox in 2016 and ran on the network for three seasons before being cancelled. Due to high demand by fans, Netflix picked up Lucifer a month later for a fourth season and would later renew it for a fifth season before deciding to cancel it once again. However, in June of 2020, the streaming service announced that Lucifer would be getting a sixth and final season that would consist of 10 episodes.
There is no word yet on when Season 5 of Lucifer will return nor when Season 6 will premiere, but considering Joe Henderson’s next project, fans will still have something to look forward to even after the Devil is gone. Although nothing will be able to replace Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Henderson’s newest Netflix show will be interesting to watch. Maybe some Lucifer cast members will make an appearance?
