Legacies Just Delivered A Massive Betrayal, But Why Did It Happen?

Legacies MG The CW

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Legacies Season 3 episode "Yup, It's A Leprechaun, All Right." Read at your own risk!

Legacies didn't make Hope and Landon's story a bulk of the episode, but by the episode's end, it was right back front and center for everyone. That's thanks in large part to MG, who revealed to Lizzie that Alyssa hadn't destroyed the Ascendant before she left as they thought. He has had it this whole time, and unfortunately, he revealed that not knowing Hope was just over his shoulder.

Hope was obviously furious at the news, as the Ascendant would allow her to travel over to the prison world and hopefully save Landon if he's still there (he is, they don't know it yet). Hope couldn't believe MG would do such a thing, and quite frankly, I was in the same boat. Like, seriously, I'm a little lost. Why exactly would MG hide the Ascendant from Hope?

It's a mystery I've had trouble unraveling, and the synopsis for the upcoming episode "Long Time, No See" hasn't helped make things clearer. Take a look at the description, and see if there's a clue behind MG's decision hidden in there.

MG (Quincy Fouse) finds himself on the outs with the Super Squad after a controversial decision he made comes to light. Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) puts a risky plan in motion regardless of the potential consequences. Kaleb (Chris Lee), Cleo (guest star Omono Okojie) and Alaric (Matthew Davis) join forces when the latest monster shows up.

Obviously, the controversial decision would be MG's hiding of the Ascendant, which was stolen by the Leprechaun and subsequently found by Hope. Clearly, all the other characters seem upset with the decision he made, so perhaps Legacies won't reveal why the character did what he did for a while. Of all the people who would betray characters in Legacies, I never would've guessed MG would be that guy.

So with the Ascendant back in the mix, I assume Hope will try and use it to save Landon. I'm also assuming the plan may fail, only because The Necromancer made a point to call out Landon for always needing Hope to bail him out last week. Perhaps Hope won't use the Ascendant after hearing MG's reasoning for hiding it? That's my working theory at this point, though I'm still not entirely sure what reason he could have for hiding the one device Legacies has used so frequently in the past.

Legacies airs on The CW Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET. Fans, I'd love to know your thoughts on the Landon and Hope situation, and whether you're hoping the two will stick together or split once he inevitably returns to Earth. Let us know in the poll below.
