Netflix’s Newest Sci-Fi Series Sounds Like An MCU Hydra Revenge Thriller

There's little doubt that Netflix is one of the kings of streaming. At this point the service almost seems to have as many TV shows and movies as it does subscribers, with more originals being added all the time. There are also quite a few amazing genre picks to be seen there, and now a new sci-fi series which sounds a bit like an MCU HYDRA-focused revenge thriller will be joining the pack.

According to Deadline, Netflix has just given a straight to series order to The Imperfects, a sci-fi drama which is set to run for a 10-episode first season. The show, which comes from Shelley Eriksen and Dennis Heaton of The Order fame, will follow three twenty-somethings who have to track down a group of scientists who administered an experimental gene therapy on them, which turned the trio into monsters. Now, they're trying to find the scientists so that they can go back to being human and resume something like a normal life. Eriksen and Heaton are also writing the series.

Actress Italia Ricci (Designated Survivor, Supergirl, Chasing Life) is set to star as Dr. Sydney Burke, a gifted scientist who joins forces with Abbi Singh (Rhianna Jagpal, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before), Juan Ruiz (Iñaki Godoy, Who Killed Sara?), and Tilda Weber (Morgan Taylor Campbell, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) to help them reverse their fates, in an effort to try and fix her own ethical and professional past mistakes.

I don't know about you, but it sounds to me like if HYDRA's super soldier serum hadn't been as well developed as it was, we could have ended up with a show like this for Bucky Barnes and the rest of his captured regiment.

The Imperfects seems as though it will deliver a lot of nice thrills, twists and shocking turns just in Season 1, along with some intriguing powers for our newly monstrous triad. Juan was an aspiring graphic novelist until the experiment turned him into something akin to a Chupacabra, Abbi (an ambitious geneticist herself) now has Succubus-like control over those around her, and Tilda's gifts as a lead singer in a punk band have been turned into super-hearing and destructive vocal powers like that of a Banshee.

The group will be trying to get their hands on Dr. Alex Sarkov (Rhys Nicholson), a man used to getting what he wants when he wants it, and who's desperate not to have anyone interfere in his plans to rewrite the human genome and bring on the next era of human evolution. But, someone else is after the intense scientist, and if she gets to him before they do, they'll have no shot at becoming human again.

Seeing as how The Imperfects is still in the early stages of development, we don't know when it might begin filming or when we can expect to see it on Netflix, but we'll be here with the update when those details become available. In the meantime, you can check out what's new right now, with our guide to the Netflix April 2021 premieres!
