Chicago P.D. is returning from a brief break with a case that could be one of the darkest that Intelligence has tackled in Season 8 so far, and that's saying something after some of what they've faced over the past eleven episodes. In an exclusive clip for this week's episode of Chicago P.D. (seen above), Voight arrives at the bloody scene of a crime, and the implications of the assault make it even more gruesome than he initially sees.
According to Voight, any officers who pursue the driver who attacked the victim and abducted his wife need to exercise "extreme caution," and it's not hard to understand why. Ben, the victim, is very seriously injured and seems to be fading fast when Voight arrives on the scene, only just able to deliver some details about how he was shot, where he was picked up, and the make and model of the car before passing out.
Unfortunately, he isn't able to share a description of the ride share driver who shot him and took his wife. Paramedics arrive on the scene, so it's possible that Ben will survive to share more information, but it's sometimes best to consider the worst-case scenario when it comes to Intelligence investigations on Chicago P.D., just in case. Based on the description for this week's episode, things could get even darker before they begin to lighten up.
The episode, called "Due Process," will see the team in pursuit of a crafty serial rapist, which doesn't fall under their purview nearly as much as the cops over on sister series Law & Order: SVU. Over the course of the investigation, Voight will find himself resisting some of his familiar old tendencies in his pursuit of justice. This comes just one episode after he had to have a talk with a spiraling Upton about not crossing lines, and not too long after Ruzek revealed some struggles with the reforms in the new Chicago P.D.
The promo for the episode reveals that the criminal of the episode will also be a killer, and Samantha Miller will be part of the investigation. Based on their interactions throughout Season 8 so far, Miller could be a factor in Voight resisting some of those old tendencies that resulted in him crossing lines to catch the bad guys. Whether he can continue resisting remains to be seen. All signs point toward an intense episode, and star Jason Beghe has weighed in on the prospect of Voight crossing lines in Season 8.
Find out what happens with the unfortunate shooting victim following Voight's discovery when Chicago P.D.'s "Due Process" airs on Wednesday, April 21 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, as the third hour of NBC's hit One Chicago block of primetime. The eighth season has delivered a lot on the character front so far, ranging from Burgess taking Makayla in to Upton and Halstead officially becoming Upstead to Atwater facing and overcoming almost impossible odds within CPD.
You can relive Chicago P.D. days gone by with the series streaming on Peacock now, along with Chicago Fire and Chicago Med. For more viewing options now and in the coming weeks, check out our spring premiere schedule.
