Loki Star Sophia Di Martino Breaks Down The Power Dynamic Between Sylvie And Loki

Disney+

Loki hit the halfway point of the season with the latest episode, which showed Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie in action opposite Tom Hiddleston's Loki as she got to experience just how much the MCU's main Loki can mess up the most carefully-laid plans. Sylvie clearly has a lot more information than Loki, as proven by her casual reveal that all the TVA agents are actually variants. Still, Loki isn't just along for the ride and following her lead. Di Martino recently spoke to CinemaBlend and opened up about the characters' power dynamic.

I spoke with Sophia Di Martino about Loki following the episode that shed a little more light on her character, including the reveal that she goes by "Sylvie" rather than "Loki." She's still quite a mysterious character, however, while Loki was opening up about his family and sexuality without showing much trepidation. The actress spoke about Sylvie and Loki's power dynamic as Sylvie continues to out-Loki Loki, saying:

At this point, Episode 3, they're sort of, she's out-Loki-ing in him. She knows more than he does. She's on her mission. He's sort of been getting in the way a little bit and messing things up. At this point, you know, the TemPad's broken. She's blaming him. There's starting to be a little bit of a mutual respect brewing. But it's still very much like what is going to happen with this? And what do these two make of each other?

Loki has so far been keeping up with Sylvie, although more by messing up her plans than holding his own with her without having as much information, but as Sophia Di Martino pointed out, she was starting to see more to him by the end of the third episode. Of course, Sylvie had no choice but to spend most of the third episode joining forces with him to try and escape an apocalypse before they died along with everybody else.

The contrast between Loki embracing his hedonistic side and Sylvie keeping her eye on the prize made for an intriguing (and occasionally hilarious) dynamic. But a big question coming out of their adventure on Lamentis-1 so far is: has Sylvie met her match in this Loki as he shows what he's capable of when he takes things seriously? Sophia Di Martino shared her thoughts on how they match up:

I think Sylvie's arrogant enough to think she's gonna come out on top.

The newly-released midseason trailer for Loki indicates that there is definitely more to come from the Sylvie/Loki dynamic, and it reveals that Sylvie isn't the only one who thinks that she has the edge on Loki and is more likely to come out on top, based on what Owen Wilson's Mobius has to say. His life would be so much simpler if he could just live a TVA-free life with a jet ski at his disposal!

With a full half season left before the final credits roll on what has been billed as a limited series rather than first of multiple seasons, it's hard to predict exactly what will happen with the God of Mischief who may have met more than his match in a variant of himself. Theories currently abound about what hasn't been revealed about Sylvie just yet, including whether this new character is Lady Loki, Enchantress, or a combination of the two.
