The tension between Meghan McCain and The View has existed for a very long time, and ever since she left the show, she’s been highly critical of it. Now, as the series that airs weekdays on the 2026 TV schedule approaches its 30th anniversary, sources didn’t hold back their thoughts about why McCain likely will not be involved in the special celebration.
Word on the street is The View is planning to invite back past hosts to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary next season. Rosie O’Donnell said she thought the program was “bringing back all the hosts.” However, reps clarified to EW that while “there was a mention of inviting some of the hosts back,” she has not gotten “a formal ask” yet.” So, while we wait for these plans to become official, there’s speculation about who will and won’t return
According to sources who spoke to Page Six, Meghan McCain likely won’t be asked to return. Why is that the case? Well, according to this insider, it’s allegedly because:
She’s the most horrible, biggest pain in the ass.
Several sources told the outlet they’d be “shocked” if McCain is invited to the 30th anniversary. She apparently did not treat people well during her time on the show, and one insider called out her alleged behavior both on and off camera. Her relationships with hosts like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar are well documented, and both women have called her out on air.
Based on what these insiders said, Meghan McCain’s turbulent relationships with her co-workers are the primary reason she might not be invited back for The View’s big celebration:
Forget about how she treated her co-hosts. It’s less about that and more about how she treated the staff. She would even scream across the stage, ‘Do you know who I am?’
Now, based on what McCain has said about The View since her exit in 2021, I would have been genuinely shocked if she came back. In 2024, she said there’s “not a chance in hell” she’d be rehired by the program, and she wouldn’t want to go back anyway.
Over the years, she’s been critical of The View and her time working there. In fact, when they had Vice President J.D. Vance on the show earlier this summer, McCain took to X to write about how “shitty and undisciplied the hosts STILL ARE.” She’s also critized day time talk shows in general, calling them “sublimely boring.” So, I would guess that she wouldn’t want to go to the 30th anniversary.
Of course, things could change, and we’ll have to wait and see how Meghan McCain herself reacts to all this. Plus, relationships among The View’s hosts can be turbulent, and they can evolve. So, we’ll have to wait and see who actually shows up at the show’s 30th anniversary.
