The Uncharted 4 Open Beta Date May Have Been Leaked

With Uncharted 4 set to launch in almost exactly two months, it’s about time the team at Naughty Dog put the game’s online component through its paces. And if a recently revealed image is to be believed, it looks like that might actually be happening this weekend.

You never know what’s going to pop up on the virtual marketplace. One minute there's nothing and then, suddenly, you find a listing for an “Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Open Weekend.” Just a little bit later and, boom, the listing disappears again.

That’s exactly what happened earlier today, as sites like Shacknews are posting screen captures of a listing on the European PlayStation Store for just such an event.

You can check out the image below, which claims that the download for the PS4 beta will be made available tomorrow, March 1. According to the image, the Open Weekend for the Uncharted 4 multiplayer mode will begin at 17:00GMT on March 4 and wrap up on March 6. In other words, if this is to be believed, Sony and Naughty Dog would be giving would-be players a chance to download the beta client several days ahead of the actual event, thus allowing everyone to just jump into the game as soon as the deadline hits.

The info also claims that the Open Weekend would let players tackle team deathmatch on three maps pulled from the Uncharted 4 single player campaign. That sounds an awful lot like the closed beta that took place late last year, only available to those who purchased Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for PlayStation 4. It would make ssense that this is the exact same client, too, since the listing currently has a five-star rating with 4,644 ratings.

Then again, it is entirely possible that this whole thing is just a hoax. It would be a well-orchestrated hoax, though, as everything about the image and the timing would make a heck of a lot of sense. Uncharted 4 arrives on April 26, after all, so it makes sense that they’d want to put the servers through their paces with plenty of time to address any issues that pop up. The game itself was already pushed back a few weeks once, with Naughty Dog citing a desire to put in some extra polish as the cause.

Of course, both Sony and Naughty Dog have remained mum at this point, so it looks like we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out if this supposedly leaked content actually becomes available. Also, this is only the European PlayStation Store we’re talking about here. Even if it is confirmed, there’s no guarantee the U.S. will be included in this weekend’s party. Our only option at this point is to cross our fingers and wait patiently.
