New Batman: The Killing Joke Video Reveals Footage Of Batgirl In Action

The highly anticipated release of Batman: The Killing Joke has fans beyond excited. Everything we've seen from the movie looks like it will treat each and every iconic character from the Batman lore with appropriate levels of respect. However, if there's one character that will receive proper service in Batman: The Killing Joke, it's Barbara Gordon a.k.a Batgirl. A new behind the scenes video chronicling Batgirls' journey in the upcoming animated feature has just hit the web. Check it out below.

The behind the scenes video spends its entire duration with voice actress Tara Strong and follows her journey towards becoming Batgirl. Strong has spent a number of years as a major part of the DC universe with roles like Harley Quinn and Raven, but her new role as Barbara Gordon in The Killing Joke really represents some of her most mature work to date. She goes onto admit that this incarnation of Batgirl does some things that we have never really seen her do on screen before, and it's all incredibly fitting for the R-rating that The Killing Joke has garnered for itself.

Not only does the above video provide some great insight into Tara Strong's approach to the character of Barbara Gordon, but it also gives us a great glimpse at how Batgirl will look diving into action when The Killing Joke finally releases. One major scene appears to depict Batgirl chasing down a semi-truck driven by two Gotham City low lifes. As Batgirl never actually donned her outfit in Alan Moore's original graphic novel, it's abundantly clear that a ton of new Barbara Gordon related content has been added to the animated feature. This makes a great deal of sense when we consider the fact that The Killing Joke runs a full 95 minutes in length, but the actual graphic novel is relatively short.

Batman: The Killing Joke in many ways represents a major love letter to those of us who grew up loving Batman: The Animated Series. The project has brought back numerous key players from the original series, such as Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, in addition to Tara Strong, and its hard R content represents a maturation of the source material. DC has produced numerous amazing Batman animated films in recent years, but The Killing Joke is currently shaping up to be one of the best of all time.

We will keep you updated with any and all updated pertaining to The Killing Joke as they become available to us. The highly anticipated animated film will hit theaters on July 25, be available on Digital HD on July 26, and finally hit shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 2. Stay tuned for more details!
