Daredevil's Charlie Cox Just Made Bold Claims About Season 2 Fight Scenes

Although Matt Murdock is gifted with four enhanced senses and a radar sense to replace his lost sight, it’s through his fists, feet and billy clubs that he takes criminals out of commission. Compared to most superhero movies and TV shows, Daredevil’s fighting is much more brutal. The best example of this was the Man Without Fear battling two rooms full of bad guys in a cramped hallway at the end of “Cut Man.” That was already incredibly brutal, but when Daredevil Season 2 rolls around, the showdowns are going to be even more savage.

According to IGN, during the Television Critics Association press tour, Charlie Cox boasted that Daredevil Season 2 will feature a fight that will “outdo” the hallway brawl seen at the end of Season 1’s second episode. As he put it:

In terms of this season, there are a number of really good fights. There is one in particular that I'm really excited about because it's kind of like an homage to that scene, but it's almost like that scene on crack.

In case you need reminding of just how intense Matt’s fight was with the Russian gangsters while attempting to rescue a kidnapped child, give that scene a rewatch.

It’s hard to imagine what the hallway fight “on crack” will look like, but, just guessing, it’s probably going to involve Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher. Last month, we got a glimpse of one the many fights that will occur between the two vigilante competitors, this particular one ending in Matt being chained up. These two are extremely skilled in combat, so while Matt won’t be going up against a gang of criminals, battling Castle is going to take everything he has, resulting in a faster pace.

Elaborating on Season 2 as a whole, Cox also said that every piece of fighting is not only great action, but is also used to advance the story in a meaningful way, as opposed to just being thrown in for the hell of it. He said:

There is absolutely an attempt to make sure every punch or kick that is thrown is like a line of dialogue; there is motive behind it, there is reason behind it, it means something. I think the writers do a really, really good job to kind of find these sequences so that they fit the story and so they don't stick out like a sore thumb.

In addition to The Punisher, Matt will also find himself tussling a bit with his former flame Elektra Natchios, and the show’s promotional material also hinted that Bullseye may appear. Although Matt tangled with some tough characters in Season 1, like Wilson Fisk and Nobu, it looks like this season’s opponents will push him even further, and the fights will reflect just how much tougher his journey is this year.

All 13 episodes of Daredevil Season 2 will premiere Friday, March 18 on Netflix.
