Four composers worked Spider-Man movie scores before the superhero was brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Danny Elfman for Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, Christopher Young for Spider-Man 3 (while retaining Elfman's original theme music), James Horner for The Amazing Spider-Man and Hans Zimmer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. For Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Giacchino, who made his Marvel debut last year with Doctor Strange, is putting together the tunes, and with less than a month to go until the movie's release, you can now hear the theme music that will play for the MCU's Web-Slinger.
As you can hear in the above video, Tom Holland's Peter Parker will have appropriate heroic theme accompanying him during Spider-Man: Homecoming. At over six minutes, the suite cycles through that uplifting, booming music to the softer, more mellow notes. Only time will tell whether or not it this theme will become as iconic as the Danny Elfman Spider-Man theme from last decade, but for now, it sounds like Michael Giacchino has once again done a solid job composing for an MCU hero. All this being said, we're still hoping that Spider-Man: Homecoming finds a way to include Giacchino's orchestral cover of the 1960s Spider-Man animated series theme song.
Along with releasing the "Spider-Man: Homecoming Suite", Sony also revealed the names of the other tracks that will be on the soundtrack, which is available for pre-order. However, be careful about looking at this information. Sometimes with superhero movies and other notable blockbusters (I'm looking at you, The Phantom Menace), these titles can sometimes hint at or outright give away spoilers.
Taking place a few months after Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming will follow Peter Parker as he balances his normal life as a high school student with keeping the innocent safe as Spider-Man. This will be complicated when a gang of thieves armed with advanced technology hit the scene, with its membership including The Vulture, The Tinkerer and The Shocker. Making matters worse, Peter will later have his special Spider-suit taken by Tony Stark following a failed attempt to subdue these criminals. Following his first solo MCU adventure (well, when Iron Man's not around, anyway), Spider-Man is due to return in Avengers: Infinity War next year, and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is already scheduled for summer 2019.
Spider-Man: Homecoming spins its web in theaters on July 7. You can also look through our 2017 movie guide to find out what other blockbusters are being released through the remainder of the year.
