Sharon Tate's Sister Is Not Happy About Hilary Duff's Haunting Of Sharon Tate Movie

With the 50th anniversary of the Tate-LaBianca murders looming, there have been numerous headlines to remind us of the horrific event. Beyond the recent death of Charles Manson, there are also multiple Hollywood projects in development that will specifically focus on Sharon Tate. One such project, The Haunting of Sharon Tate, will star Hilary Duff as the murdered actress, and it seems that Sharon Tate's sister isn't happy about the film. Debra Tate recently spoke out about the upcoming movie, stating:

It doesn't matter who it is acting in it -- it's just tasteless. It's classless how everyone is rushing to release something for the 50th anniversary of this horrific event.

This comment doesn't appear just to be a personal attack against the fact that Hilary Duff will play Sharon Tate. Debra Tate is unhappy about the sheer fact that anyone would make a movie to honor such a "horrific event" that left six people (including Sharon Tate's unborn child) dead. About the film itself, Debra Tate (who says she owns the rights to Sharon's likeness) also claims that she was never contacted to approve or sign off on story details for The Haunting of Sharon Tate.

One issue about the film that seems to have Debra Tate particularly upset is the possible creation of new storylines about Sharon Tate dreaming of her murder before it took place -- which, has become a long-standing legend about the real-life murders. According to Tate's sister, this never actually happened. Debra Tate also told People her personal thoughts on that particular idea, noting,

I know for a fact she did not have a premonition -- awake or in a dream -- that she and Jay would have their throat cut. I checked with all of her living friends. None of her friends had any knowledge of this. Tacky, tacky, tacky.

Despite Debra Tate's lack of enthusiasm for The Haunting of Sharon Tate, it looks like Hilary Duff has taken her transformation into Sharon Tate seriously. The actress recently shared a photo of herself as Sharon Tate on social media, and the resemblance is uncanny.

In addition to The Haunting of Sharon Tate, there are two other films currently in development that will hone in on the Manson Family's horrific acts against Tate. Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino is similarly developing a movie focusing on Los Angeles in the late 1960s, and while it's apparently not entirely centered on the Tate-LaBianca murders, it will address those characters and that topic. Additionally, American Psycho director is also currently working on a Charles Manson-centric film called Charlie Says, which will feature The Crown star Matt Smith as the titular cult figure.

With so many movies about Sharon Tate in development, we will have to wait and see how audiences receive them. Until then, you can hop over to our 2018 movie premiere guide and see what's coming this year.
