The New Captain Marvel Trailer Is Cosmic And Action-Packed
As much as Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are looking forward to Avengers 4, there's still one more movie we need to see before that explosive tale arrives. Captain Marvel is winding the clock back to the 1990s to tell Carol Danvers' origin story, and after being treated to the teaser trailer back in September, now a new trailer for the penultimate Phase 3 film has arrived. Check it out!
You'll remember that in the Captain Marvel teaser trailer, there was a moment where Carol Danvers was aboard a subway train and punched an old lady in the face. This became an instant meme, and naturally it was assumed this elderly citizen was a Skrull in disguise. Sure enough, we see this fight continue at the start of the new Captain Marvel trailer, and unless that woman has been working out and eating her vitamins, she's definitely a Skrull.
From there, the trailer delves into Carol Danvers' time with Nick Fury on Earth, as well as her time among the Kree. As Annette Bening's mysterious character explains, Brie Larson's Carol was taken in by the Kree after nearly dying, and having lost her memory, she was reshaped into a Kree warrior. Sorry, noble warrior hero. But having returned to Earth, the time has come for Carol to learn about her past life and who she truly is.
As if uncovering long-buried memories wasn't difficult enough, Carol Danvers will also have to contend with the shapeshifting Skrulls on Earth, led by Ben Mendelsohn's Talos, who we see both in green and human form. However, that's not to say that the Kree are all angels. Jude Law's character, who was previously identified as Carol's Kree mentor, has an edge to him, and if the recent report about this individual is correct, then Carol will likely find herself coming to blows with him, perhaps towards the end of the movie.
But all that pales in comparison to the end of the new Captain Marvel trailer, where we see that Nick Fury, who still has two working eyes, is a cat person. That's just great, and it's also worth noting that if Carol's cat, Goose, is anything like his comic book counterpart, there's more to him than meets the eye.
Along with the trailer dropping, it was also revealed that select Captain Marvel scenes will be specifically formatted in IMAX, thus delivering 26% more picture than what would be shown in standard theaters. IMAX and major blockbusters have become a peanut butter and chocolate-like combination in recent years, but it's still interesting to learn Captain Marvel will be taking advantage of this format.
Captain Marvel flies into theaters on March 8, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for continuing coverage. In the meantime, feel free to look through our Marvel movie guide to learn what the MCU has planned for the coming years.
