Wow, Tim Miller’s Plans For Deadpool 2 Included Fantastic Four’s The Thing

Deadpool and Colossus in Deadpool 2

Tim Miller broke new ground for the superhero genre with 2016's Deadpool. The blockbuster proved that R-rated comic book movies could still make tons of money, while the fourth-wall-breaking Merc with the Mouth quickly became a pop culture sensation. But Miller ultimately parted ways with Fox for Deadpool 2, citing creative differences. And now we have a better idea of what the filmmaker's plans were, and they reportedly included Fantastic Four member The Thing.

Given the massive success of the first Deadpool movie, Tim Miller seemed like an obvious choice to bring the highly anticipated sequel to life. But he ended up parting ways before his vision come become reality. This made the way for David Leitch to take over as director. Miller has been doing some press for the upcoming release of Terminator: Dark Fate, and has opened up about some of the crapped ideas. It turns out The Fantastic Four's Thing was going to pop up in the third act, and there would have been a very different storyline for Morena Baccarin's Vanessa.

This news comes to us following Tim Miller's recent appearance on the Fourth Wall podcast, and revealed a few details about his scrapped Deadpool sequel. He had some very big visions for the movie, ones that never made it to the light of day in the theatrical cut. Since Fox had the rights over The Fantastic Four at the time, Miller planned to use The Thing in the epic final battle with The Juggernaut. It would have been a hell of a plot twist, but with serious ramifications now that Disney has acquired Fox.

Marvel fans have been waiting for The Fantastic Four to join the MCU since its inception, as the group of heroes are a major presence in the comics. And it turns out that Deadpool 2 would have led to clobberin' time if Tim Miller's vision came to fruition, with Ben Grimm bursting onto the screen for an action sequence. Concept art for The Thing was also revealed a while back, teasing this new revelation.

The use of The Thing isn't the only new detail about Tim Miller's Deadpool 2 that was revealed. It turns out that his version of Cable would have looked a bit different. Namely, he was going for a comic book accurate version of the futuristic mutant, one that stood at 6'7. What's more, Vanessa's story would have been handled drastically different.

Tim Miller's version of the sequel put much more attention on Wade Wilson's girlfriend, who was killed off in the opening moments of Deadpool 2. In addition to fleshing out their relationship more, Miller's version would have also seen Vanessa become the vigilante known as Copycat. This is a twist fans have been hoping for, and one that might still be possible in Deadpool 3.

It's currently unclear when Deadpool 3 might be heading to theaters, and if it'll be connected to the great Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Ryan Reynolds did recently go in for meetings with the studio, so hopefully details will hit soon.

You can check out Tim Miller's Terminator: Dark Fate in theaters November 1st. In the meantime check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
