Netflix has more than proven its power as an original content creator. And this year, it looks to extend its streak as an award-winning studio. With more than 25 original films on deck (so far), the studio is offering plenty to keep us entertained in 2020.
On January 3, the platform’s Film account shared a long thread detailing 27 upcoming releases. The list includes something for pretty much everyone: comedies, dramas, thrillers, literary adaptations, sequels to popular teen rom coms, biopics, and documentaries.
A-listers like Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman and Nicole Kidman will star in some films -- and one was even produced by Barack and Michelle Obama. Some prominent filmmakers, like David Fincher, Spike Lee and Tyler Perry, will have new content on the platform this year. So will Taylor Swift -- though this time, it’s in the form of a documentary, and will likely feature zero creepy anthropomorphic felines. Here are all of the new films Netflix has announced so far:
If that doesn’t sound like enough to keep you busy, Netflix also teased that this is “just a taste” of what they have in store for 2020. More titles will be added, but clearly the streamer already has plenty to offer.
David Fincher's Mank, with Gary Oldman as screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, sounds like a must-see. Fans of To All the Boys I've Loved Before should be happy to see the sequel on the list with To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, but it sounds like complications are ahead. Ryan Murphy's The Prom movie -- with Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman -- definitely looks intriguing. Interesting that Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg's latest team-up is for Netflix and based on the same detective novels adapted for the old TV show Spenser: For Hire.
Since we know more Netflix movies will be revealed later -- not to mention all of the amazing Netflix Original TV shows ahead -- keep up with all of Netflix's 2020 premiere and return dates with our handy schedule.
