When Alan Ritchson was asked to explain what the “high octane” fourth season of Reacher was about at San Diego Comic-Con, he did warn that he was going to “spoil [it] in five seconds.” However, he also rightfully noted that this is a show based on books. So, the following information was fair game to share, and honestly, it made me even more excited for this book-to-screen adaptation.
Season 4 of Reacher is based on Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, which will follow Jack Reacher as he dives into a major conspiracy after witnessing a woman shoot herself on the subway (which is implied in Season 4’s trailer). During this mission, he’ll get twisted with someone named Lila, and according to Ritchson, this relationship will get spicy:
Well, you know, it's based on a book, you know. Really, you can’t fire me because it's in the book. But you know, Reacher gets involved with – there’s a conspiracy going on, and he's trying to help these women, and also, you know, maybe it gets a little romantic with Lila Hoth, as one does.
Sleeping with the enemy usually does not turn out well…and according to Alan Ritchson, that’s what makes this season so fun. He also noted that this is a very different situation for Reacher to be in. Explaining why he’s excited for this storyline, the actor said:
So look, I don't want to ruin the show for you, but my favorite thing about the season is that what's different about this is Reacher sleeps with the enemy. [Crowd reacts with intrigue.] That is exactly how I felt when I found out after I was cleaning up in the hotel. It was like not a good feeling. And so what happens then when Reacher is now, you know, he's got a different kind of relationship with the villain in this story. It gets very, very interesting.
Thankfully, the moderator followed up by asking if Reacher catches feelings this season. While Ritchson did confirm his character sleeps with the enemy, he wouldn’t give the most direct answer about Reacher’s true feelings, as he said:
I think Reacher experiences his feelings in his own way. Right? I mean, you kind of agree with that, right?
Well, now I really can’t wait for Reacher to return on the 2026 TV schedule. Alan Ritchson had already said Season 4 was their best yet, and this twist in the plot makes me believe that statement even more.
I love a good villain, especially a female villain, and I love that she’ll challenge Reacher in a new way. Plus, we’ll get a pinch of romance too, which is always a welcome addition (even if it ends terribly for everyone).
