Subscribe To Fans Are Actually Rallying Around Netflix's Iron Fist Updates
Iron Fist became the first Marvel show to get the axe from Netflix last week, and fans had the weekend to process the fact that the Immortal Iron Fist's show is not immortal on the streaming service. While some of those fans surely came to terms with the cancellation over the past few days, others have not, and they're rallying to try and save the show via petition.
Yes, Iron Fist fans who aren't ready to give up on Danny Rand and Co. are signing a petition to try and get Netflix and Marvel to reconsider their decision to cancel the series, which was largely panned in its first season. The petition argues that Netflix made "a terrible decision" and that it's "unfair that Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Daredevil get a third season" even though their reviews weren't 100% positive as well.
It's worth noting that Luke Cage has not yet received a renewal for Season 3, although the odds are quite good, and the reviews for Iron Fist Season 1 were far more critical than what Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage received for their first seasons. The petition goes on to argue why Netflix should renew IronFist despite the initial cancellation, stating this:
The petition on change.org was seeking 25,000 cyber signatures when it went up following the cancellation news. At the time of writing, it has garnered more than 20,000 signatures, and it's likely that the petition will surpass the initial goal of 25,000. Showrunner M. Raven Metzner even acknowledged the petition via his Twitter account on October 15. The people who put the movement in motion should be pleased with the attention to their cause!
All of this said, the petition isn't very likely to result in Netflix reversing the decision to cancel the series. This is hardly the first instance of angry fans trying to get a show continued, and those efforts are relatively rarely successful. Netflix did bring back Sense8 for some closure after fan outcry, and fan campaigns have successfully saved other shows, but the decision to cancel reportedly came from Disney, and Disney tends to sticks to its guns.
None of this is to say that Iron Fist will never be back in any capacity. We can't necessarily rule out Danny or any of his pals turning up on one of the ongoing Marvel shows on Netflix, and Disney is reportedly interested in reviving Iron Fist on its streaming service, which will also feature limited series about popular MCU characters who never got their own movie.
We'll have to wait and see what happens next. Daredevil Season 3 will be the next installment to debut in Netflix's corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so there will be no shortage of superheroes even despite Iron Fist getting the axe.
