The Star Wars universe’s expansion will continue this fall with the premiere of the live-action series, The Mandalorian. It has not even premiered yet, and prospective fans of the series have already gotten great news! Development for Season 2 of the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars television show is already underway.
Series creator Jon Favreau subtly shared the news during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He was asked about The Mandalorian and Favreau provided a lot of insight, including an update on the status of the show post-Season 1. Speaking about the Star Wars series and teasing how things have gone, Favreau told Kimmel:
This is exciting news! Jon Favreau is already working on the scripts for Season 2. It would seem that Favreau and Disney have high hopes for the future of the Star Wars series. Why wouldn’t they? The Mandalorian sounds incredibly promising, in my opinion.
For those who need a refresher on what it is about, here is some background on The Mandalorian. It picks up five years after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, a.k.a. the last installment of the original film trilogy. The story centers on a lone gunfighter living in the galaxy’s Outer Reaches, putting the action far away from the New Republic.
The series stars Game of Thrones’ alum Pedro Pascal in the main role. Pascal played Oberyn Martell on the HBO series and the actor quickly became a fan favorite. Given his experience with both universes, he has shared how the HBO hit compares to Star Wars.
Classic droids are set to appear, and Taika Waititi may be voicing a classic droid character. Waititi has not been shy about sharing his enthusiasm over the project, as well as weighing in on how working on the Star Wars series varies from Marvel work.
Based on what is known so far about The Mandalorian, it should be a real treat for Star Wars fans. Progress on the series has continued at a rapid rate. The fall premiere on Disney’s new streaming platform is already closing in quickly.
Tiding fans over have been first-looks at two characters from The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau’s reveal that he is already starting to pen Season 2 seems to be a good sign for the series’ future. For fans wanting to head into Season 1 with the comfort that there could be more in store, it is undoubtedly welcomed.
The Mandalorian will premiere Tuesday, November 12 on Disney+. So, just in time for the holidays to start ramping up! At least, by Hallmark Channel standards. In the leadup, there will be no shortage of summer television premieres to entertain you.
Like a contented Hallmark movie character, Britt happily lives in the same city she grew up in. Along with movies and television, she is passionate about competitive figure skating. She has been writing about entertainment for 5 years, and as you may suspect, still finds it as entertaining to do as when she began.
