Why did Fixer Upper’s Chip and Joanna Gaines leave their HGTV show behind? It is a question that has undoubtedly entered the minds of the couple’s countless fans ever since it was announced that the show was ending. The Gaines have clarified their reasons in the past, including debunking safety concerns as a cause.

At times, what went into their decision has even involved a report of something strange. Opting to end Fixer Upper did not come without a lot of consideration and some aftermath. What made Chip and Joanna Gaines decide to move on? Chip Gaines told The Today Show:

That wasn't an easy decision. We wrestled with some counselors, for lack of a better term, that sort of helped us articulate, do we want to do this or not? And I would say the overwhelming majority of those people said when you turn that television show off all of this other stuff will come crumbling down and for that ironic and complete opposite reality to have occurred is pretty powerful testimony to just be yourself, man. Being yourself is more powerful than whatever it is that everybody's telling you you have to do, or you're supposed to do.

For an actor, deciding to leave a long-running television show can be incredibly difficult. Can you imagine how intense of a decision it must be for a television personality to pull the plug on their own series? In that vein, part of what Chip Gaines revealed is how many people did not think that their choice would end well.

The beloved couple is now proving everyone wrong with their exceptional second act. Since Fixer Upper ended, Chip and Joanna Gaines’ personal and professional life has only continued to flourish!

After Fixer Upper finished up its run, Chip and Joanna Gaines remained busy. They shared they were expecting their fifth child after announcing the HGTV show was ending. A few months later, they welcomed a new son to their family in July of 2018. Joanna Gaines somehow managed to finish her first book amid all the excitement.

As you can tell from what Chip Gaines shared, he and his wife have experienced the opposite of their counselors’ concerns being realized. Earlier this year, it was announced that the Gaines’ would be getting their own network. The couple’s Magnolia Network will replace Discovery’s DIY Network. Are they the perfect choice for a takeover makeover? I think so!

In the past, Chip and Joanna Gaines have made some hard-hitting revelations about their life pre-Fixer Upper. So, to have Chip Gaines reflect on their concerns about leaving the show is equally compelling, in my opinion. Their success did not happen overnight, though. Hence, the development of an avid fanbase, which I think helped them with their transition.

Social media may have been another critical factor as it allowed the couple to keep fans updated on their life post-Fixer Upper. It is because so many people remain invested in Chip and Joanna Gaines’ ever-evolving story that fans will keep staying tuned for more!

You can catch back up with Chip and Joanna Gaines when they make their TV return sometime in 2020 on the Magnolia Network. The good news is that you still have plenty of time to check out some new fall television.
