Ian Somerhalder got a chance to work with his wife, Nikki Reed, for Netflix’s V Wars. The new series marks a return to the vampire genre for Somerhalder and Reed. He played fan-favorite, Damon Salvatore, throughout The Vampire Diaries' eight-season run, while she played Rosalie Cullen in the Twilight films.
The two got to team up for V Wars, and Ian Somerhalder’s review of the experience is lavish with praise for Nikki Reed. In the series, Reed plays the ex-wife of Somerhalder’s Luther Swann -- Rachel Swann. It turns out, that is not the part V Wars producers originally had in mind for her. Opening up about working with Reed, Somerhalder told Fox News:
It was really amazing. Initially, the producers… wanted her to play my wife, and she said, ‘No, I appreciate that,’ but she wanted to play something that was more unexpected, and she did and crushed it. She's now this really well-known jewelry designer, and she's built this incredible sustainable company. So to see her go in ultra-prepared... breastfeeding our baby, making sketches on conference calls, building this company, put it all down, walk onto set, deliver these powerful, nuanced performances, give everyone a hug and leave — you're just like, "Whoa, what was that?"
It sounds like someone is definitely a fan! Ian Somerhalder is giving fans another motivation to check out V Wars. While some couples can have issues working together, that does not seem to be the case with Somerhalder and Nikki Reed.
The two of them been married since April 26, 2015, and has a daughter, Bodhi Soleil. She was born on July 25, 2017. Along with marriage and parenthood, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed have found time to be co-stars.

Their experience on the set of the Netflix series certainly makes it sound feasible. For his part, Somerhalder could not stop gushing about his wife, saying:
She's really a powerhouse, and we are all grateful as producers that she came and really did us a solid favor. It was amazing being able to watch her and be on set with her because we're so lovey-dovey in life and these characters were sort of at each other a bit. It was an amazing experience. I was also directing. Being able to do that with her and set up the scenes and then rehearse with her and then go back and work on camera angles and, then [she] and I would come back together and shoot the scene, and she would leave set... I owe her 20 years of back massages.
It seems safe to speculate that Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed play a dynamic that is a far cry from their one in real life in V Wars. As if you needed any more proof (and a reminder), Reed plays the former wife of Somerhalder’s character. In the series, he has remarried. Hence, the role V Wars producers originally wanted Reed to do.
On V Wars, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed’s characters also have a son together, Dez. Playing a divorced couple with a relationship that Somerhalder describes as being antagonistic gave them a chance to spread their acting wings. Somerhalder clearly devoted himself to this project.
The actor revealed that making V Wars had put him in the hospital! Yikes! The stars of the Netflix series want to do a second season, so time will tell if they get a chance too. At least, Ian Somerhalder has fond memories of working with his wife from Season 1.
Now fans of the actors will have to wait and see if they team up again. Ian Somerhalder was not worried about doing another vampire show, despite doing one for eight seasons. Since working with Nikki Reed brought him this much joy, I do not see why they would not do it again. Do not mess with success!
