Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Have Quit Social Media, But Will Now Reunite With The Queen
The past year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been eventful, to say the least. The announcement of stepping down from royal duties caused quite a stir not only in the United Kingdom, but internationally. The treatment the couple received from the press and social media were rumored reasons for them stepping down, and now Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seemed to finally quit social media just as they are poised to reunite with Queen Elizabeth.
According to Evening Standard (via The Times), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave up their personal Facebook and Twitter accounts over the reported online hatred and trolling Meghan Markle has continued to receive. A source close to the couple revealed that they are unlikely to return to social media on a personal level. They seem to be shunning using social media for their non-profit Archwell Foundation, as well. The source said the couple’s latest move is part of their new life in the United States.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported social media exit comes at a time when they are trying to repair their relationship with the Royal Family. The Times has also noted that the couple will be reuniting with Queen Elizabeth in time for her 95th birthday, and according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, who spoke with Entertainment Tonight, they've been working on their relationship with the family since Christmas.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to return to the U.K. in June as the Trooping the Color parade will take place this summer. Before seeing the Queen in June, the couple has quite a few things brewing as they continue to settle in the U.S. The couple recently announced they will be partnering with Spotify to launch a podcast, after announcing their Nextflix deal. They have also been partnering with tech and research organizations, and all of this has come along as the couple settled in Montecito, California with their 20-month-old son, Archibald.
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they would be stepping down from senior royal duties to live a more low-key life. Prince Harry spoke on wanting to protect his family from the glaring eyes of the press and public. At the time, he had every reason to want to retreat from the press and the paparazzi, especially after losing his mother, Princess Diana, in a paparazzi chase in 1997. But now, a year later, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are more open to reuniting with the Queen after successfully blazing their trail and becoming more independent from the royal family.
