Sex and the City is on the way back to television more than 17 years after the original HBO series finale, and more than ten years after Sex and the City 2 hit theaters as the second feature film. The revival will release on HBO Max and unfortunately will be missing one of the original core four stars, but the new show has officially added some new stars to fill the void, and one of them is a Chicago P.D. familiar face.

Nicole Ari Parker, who made her Chicago P.D. debut as Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller in the latest season of the hit NBC drama, is on board Sex and the City's And Just Like That... revival. TVLine reports that Parker (who played a memorable role on Empire before joining Chicago P.D.) will play a Park Avenue mother of three by the name of Lisa Todd Wexley, who works as a documentarian. This new character will be a far cry from Samantha Miller, and it should be interesting to see if this Sex and the City casting means Parker won't be around for the next season of P.D.

Also joining the cast of And Just Like That... are Sarita Choudhury of Homeland and Blindspot fame, and Karen Pittman from The Morning Show and Luke Cage. Choudhury will play a single and self-made Manhattan real estate broker named Seema Patel, while Pittman is Dr. Nya Wallace, a Columbia Law professor who is both challenging and brilliant.

It's not clear at this point how any of these three newly-announced characters will fit in with the returning group of Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie, Cynthia Nixon's Miranda, and Kristin Davis' Charlotte in a return to scripted television after a very weird turn at reality TV hosting. Given that Kim Cattrall did not return to Sex and the City for the And Just Like That... revival, all eyes will be on the series to find a way to make up for the lack of Samantha.

Is one of these characters intended to be Samantha 2.0, or will this new Sex and the City, with Carrie and Co. at a very different place in their lives than in the original run of the series, not feel the need to introduce another Samantha-esque character? I know I wouldn't envy an actress who had to try to fill Kim Cattrall's shoes in a similar role. Fans already miss her, and the show is only in the filming stage!

Nicole Ari Parker, Sarita Choudhury, and Karen Pittman aren't the only new cast members who have been announced at the time of writing. Sara Ramirez, who TV fans will likely know best for her run as Dr. Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy, is playing a non-binary, queer stand-up comedian/podcast host that regularly features Carrie. As for cast members who are returning other than Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg (also of NBC's One Chicago fame), Willie Garson and Evan Handler will all be back.

Sex and the City's And Just Like That... revival will run for ten half-hour episodes on HBO Max. No release date has been announced so far, but the show is currently filming in New York City, so production is moving along. In the meantime, you can find some upcoming viewing options on our 2021 summer TV premiere schedule and the original run of Sex and the City streaming on HBO Max.
