Netflix's Bridgerton Star Phoebe Dynevor Now Set To Star In Another Romantic Novel Adaptation

Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton in Bridgerton.

Following Bridgerton’s major success on Netflix and the huge renewal from the streamer, Season 1 leading lady Phoebe Dynevor is taking a step in a different direction from Daphne as the Netflix series shifts focus to a different Bridgerton sibling. The actress is set to star in another romantic novel adaptation, this time for Amazon.

According to Deadline, Phoebe Dynevor will be starring in and executive producing contemporary romance series Exciting Times, which is in development at Amazon Studios. Based on Irish writer Naoise Dolan’s novel, the series centers on Ava, originally from Ireland but living abroad to teach children of wealthy families rules of English grammar. In true romance novel fashion, Ava winds up in a love triangle involving banker Julian and lawyer Edith.

Exciting Times and the role of Ava may keep Phoebe Dynevor in the romance realm, but she's clearly branching out from the period romance genre of Bridgerton. When the series premiered late last year, it shot to popularity on Netflix. It broke records on the streamer and Netflix renewed it for a second season within a month of its premiere.

However, that Season 2 renewal soon turned into a two-season renewal, and Bridgerton is guaranteed to keep going through Season 4. While Dynevor’s new series may worry some fans who don't want to lose Daphne, it’s not such a surprise that she’s taking on new projects as she’s going to be less prominent in Season 2.

Bridgerton is based on the popular Julia Quinn series of novels, all focusing on a different member of the family. With the first season focusing solely on Phoebe Dynevor's Daphne, it’s Anthony Bridgerton’s time to shine in Season 2. Jonathan Bailey will be playing the lead in the second season, which is based on The Viscount Who Loved Me. So, a lot of the attention will be drawn away from Daphne and her story, since it’s basically over as she and Simon had a baby. With Regé-Jean Page’s exit, it makes it a little easier to move around that storyline.

Since Bridgerton Season 2 is likely still filming, it’s possible Phoebe Dynevor won’t even begin filming for Amazon's Exciting Times until much later. At the time of writing there is no premiere date or estimated date for Exciting Times, so the development process may still have a ways to go.

In the meantime, Phoebe Dynevor is keeping herself busy even beyond Bridgerton, as she is set to star in the film The Colour Room, alongside Matthew Goode. She’ll portray famous English ceramic artist Clarice Cliff and the period piece film will center on Clarice’s rise to prominence in the 1920s. For now, you can always relive Daphne and Simon's tumultuous love story with Season 1 on Bridgerton streaming on Netflix now.
