Ant-Man's Trailer Teaser Is Dramatic And Awesome

UPDATE: Watch the full trailer right here!

FROM EARLIER: As we reported earlier this weekend, a brand new Ant-Man trailer will be hitting the web tomorrow – but today Marvel has delivered a nice little preview to help whet our appetites. Watch it below!

As I write this, the MTV Movie Awards are airing, and following Robert Downey Jr.’s reception of the MTV Generation Award and a special clip from The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel launched this trailer teaser online. It’s very quick and only a snippet of what we can expect from the full preview to deliver when it hits, but it’s still a pretty neat clip that gives us a bit of insight about Ant-Man’s plot.

In case you didn’t recognize his voice, that’s Corey Stoll speaking at the beginning of this clip, playing the role of Darren Cross – a businessman and former mentee of Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) who eventually becomes the villainous Yellowjacket. While we can’t quite see who he is talking to, it sounds like he is in the midst of selling the magical Pym Particles – which are utilized by Ant-Man and allow him to shrink down to a miniscule size. The piece overall is rather bleak, with Stoll’s lines being joined by words from Pym, explaining how giving everyone in the world the power of gods will cause a great deal of chaos.

Tonally, the teaser is reminiscent of the more serious teaser trailer that was released back in January - which I imagine will strike many people as odd given the fact that Paul Rudd is the film’s star and Anchorman’s Adam McKay worked with him on the rewrite of the script. The good news is that very big laughs are on the way. Like our own Sean O’Connell, I too got a look at the brand new Ant-Man trailer yesterday, and it’s worth pointing out that this trailer teaser edits around all of the big, funny beats. This includes one particularly funny exchange between Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, a nice bit in a boxing match between Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, as well as an amazing moment that takes place during a fight between Ant-Man and Yellowjacket. In many ways it shows a different side of the upcoming blockbuster, and I think it’s something that a lot of people are going to appreciate.

You can be sure that we will have the brand new Ant-Man trailer for you here on Cinema Blend as soon as it drops online, so be sure to stay tuned. It’s a pretty fantastic preview that should get a lot of people excited for the movie. And prepare for the Peyton Reed-directed Marvel Studios adventure movie to arrive in theaters on July 17th.
