Hip-Hop Jane Austen

Screenwriter Tyger William may have accomplished the impossible by finding a way to make Jane Austen palatable to male audiences. He’s adapted the corset powered author’s terribly romantic working into a hip-hop opera. I kid you not.

What’s more, this movie is being made. Variety says Screen Gems is behind it, and the musical will be based on the Austen novel “Emma”. Except of course it’s been updated and moved from froo froo Victorian times to a gritty inner-city high school. Basically, what we have here Step Up To Jane Austen. Someone call Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum.

Since teenage guys, inexplicably, don’t seem to have figured out that dancing is for girls, the movie is sure to be a hit among both sexes. Put dancing and singing in anything these days and it’s a box office smash. Bonus points if you can cast good looking teenagers. Hip-hop Jane Austen is a surefire winner.

I for one can’t figure out which I’d like to watch less: this or a normal Jane Austen borefest. Both seem pretty bad. When is someone going to remake Jane Austen with lightsabers? Then I’m in.
