A Walking Dead Stuntman Was Hospitalized After Huge Fall On The Set

The Walking Dead Season 8 is coming soon to give fans an explosive look at how war plays out in the post-apocalypse, as Rick's is successfully pulling other communities together to take on Negan and his Saviors. Unfortunately, upping the action also means upping the danger factor, and a horrifying accident occurred this week on the Walking Dead set, as one stuntman took a serious fall and was hospitalized soon after. Not the first big accident this week for an AMC show, either.

The stuntman, who has been extremely busy within the industry for just under a decade, was identified as John Bernecker, and according to THR, he was on the set of The Walking Dead on Wednesday when he fell over 20 feet, landing on the hard concrete floor below. He was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center by Medevac, where it was determined he'd suffered a major head injury. At the time of this writing, he's being treated inside the intensive care unit, so we're unsure if the situation is relatively stable or more dire than that.

Some of John's friends took to social media to share hopeful comments, and while this obviously isn't proof of anything one way or the other, John Bernecker's girlfriend Jennifer Crocker shared the following on Facebook.

That is not a message that indicates many positive things are happening with John Bernecker's health, particularly the urging for a doctor to see "the life we all know he has in him." We're just going to hope for the best, and that the stunt performer can get whatever medical help he needs to pull through.

The Walking Dead is just one of many, many projects that John Bernecker has worked on since making a name for himself in 2010. Over the years, he's been in major Hollywood blockbusters like all the Hunger Games sequels, both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flicks, and more, with some giant future projects like The Fate of the Furious, Rampage and Black Panther. On the TV side, he's been in big shows like The Vampire Diaries, Scream Queens and 24: Legacy.

CinemaBlend sends our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of John Bernecker during this trying time, and we absolutely hope for the quickest turnaround imaginable, so that he can get back to the life that he enjoyed before this horrible accident.

The Walking Dead Season 8 will make its big debut at some point this fall, presumably in October. To see when all the other new and returning shows are hitting primetime soon, check out our summer premiere schedule.
