The Injustice 2 launch roster just grew by two members, and they happen to be a couple of characters who are used to working with each other. Get ready for a visit from the Suicide Squad.
While critics may not have been too fond of the recently released Suicide Squad movie, that didn't stop fans from pouring into theaters and giving the film a record-breaking opening weekend at the box office. It makes sense that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios would want to carry that momentum onto a new battlefield, with both Harley Quinn and Deadshot being announced as playable characters in Injustice 2.
For folks who played the first Injustice, Harley Quinn shouldn't be too big of a surprise. She was a fan favorite in that first DC Universe brawler but, up until now, we had no word on whether or not she would join the lineup for Injustice 2. As was confirmed by the publisher at Gamescom today, Quinn and her new BFF, Deadshot, are reporting for duty.
Coming from the team behind the Mortal Kombat games, it should come as no surprise that the first Injustice was a heck of a lot of fun. It used the DCU and its heroes and villains wisely, actually had an entertaining campaign mode, as well as introduced an intriguing new combat system that wasn't just a cut and paste of MK.
Injustice 2 aims to extend that divide even further, introducing an upgrade system to the frantic fisticuffs. As you play the game, you'll be rewarded with various new gear, some of which can be seen on Harley and Deadshot in today's reveal trailer. The new gear tweaks stats and abilities of the characters, meaning that your version of Batman can offer completely different strengths and weaknesses compared to the Batman your pal has set up.
The NetherRealm team informed us during E3 2016 that there will be a normalized mode of sorts for competitive fighters who don't like the idea of variety across a single character, though they have not revealed any details on what form that will actually take.
As for Harley and Deadshot, they look to be right at home in their debut trailer for the latest Injustice game.
Along with a variety of outfits, Harley struts onto the scene with her trusty bat in hand, as well as her trademark massive hammer. She's also not afraid to fall back on firearms and explosives, as well as call on the help of her attack hyenas.
As for Deadshot, he likes to go to work up close with a knife but, at a distance, he's all about relying on his incredible aim.
Sadly, we still only have a "2017" launch window, so expect to do a bit more waiting before finally taking Harley, Deadshot and the rest of the crew for a spin in Injustice 2.
