Subscribe To Here's When The First Dark Souls 3 DLC Will Arrive Updates
Dark Souls 3 will be getting its first major DLC pack for the PlayStation 4 starting on October 25th. That's based on a tweet that was sent out and then deleted by Bandai Namco, indicating that some new content is coming soon for the critical and commercial success that is Dark Souls 3.
Gamespot is reporting that the tweet was sent out alongside a new trailer for the game, highlighting some of the new features and content set to arrive in the upcoming Dark Souls 3 DLC, which is called Ashes of Ariandel. According to Gamespot, the original trailer, unfortunately, has been made private and is unavailable for viewing at the moment, but From Software and Bandai Namco will obviously revive the promotional material when they're ready to make a more formal announcement.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see both the tweet and the trailer resurface with a lot more detail next week during the PAX West convention set to take place between September 2nd and September 5th in Seattle, Washington. The event is jam packed with exhibitors and games set to be on display, and they've already sold out of tickets for the convention. It would be the perfect place to introduce gamers to more details on the new content for Dark Souls 3.
Sony, alternatively, doesn't seem to be playing by the rules of Bandai Namco, and over on their official PlayStation channel they have the trailer up for viewing, featuring the new DLC.
The trailer is more cinematic than it is informative. It features a series of locations and dark imagery, including a new snowy mountaintop area for players to explore and befitting enemies to match. For instance, we see a pack of large dire wolves surrounding the player-character as they attempt to battle through them. There's also a large, armored boss who seems to be dressed appropriately for the occasion.
Parts of the trailer recall some of the more epic boss fights from the original Dark Souls 3, mixing in that imagery with a new boss present in the upcoming DLC, along with some new cinematics of what appears to be a church crumbling under the ravaging flames of an untamed fire.
It's hard to make out what new equipment is present. The clips in the trailer blur by quickly, but there appears to be new magic attacks available, along with new ways to utilize fire to burn enemies in your path.
Seeing the graphical effects and the attention to detail that From Software has paid to the world of Dark Souls never ceases to amaze me. It's one of the few games where each new iteration is a visually splendid upgrade over the previous game and it shows in the way that the characters and creatures move and the way the environment is depicted with such somber malice.
The Ashes of Ariandel DLC will be available individually or as part of the $25 season pass that was made available for Dark Souls 3. The season pass will be good for two DLC packs that Bandai Namco and From Software have planned for the game, effectively making them around $12.50 each.
