The first major expansion pack for Civilization VI has had its content detailed in a brand new trailer. 2K Games popped out the trailer recently to give gamers an idea of what to expect from the Civilization VI: Rise and Fall expansion pack.

The video is three and a half minutes long, which is obviously enough time to give gamers a very clear idea of what to expect from the first major expansion pack from Firaxis and 2K Games, which is due out on PC starting February 8th, 2018.

The video starts with narration from a father to a daughter. The segment is a cinematic with a high-quality rendering of the daughter. What's interesting here is that they use realistic facial motion, lighting, skin textures, and shaders, but the anatomical design of the character looks like something out of Disney's workshop. It's an interesting blend of artistic aesthetics.

Veteran Hollywood actor Sean Bean offers a brief overview of how the hardships of early civilizations were tough, but they persevered.

We see how workers slave away at building the pyramids of ancient Egypt, and then, later, glimpse gladiators stepping into the Colosseum during the height of the Roman empire. But it doesn't stop there.

The Civilization VI expansion wants to ensure that gamers get a thorough understanding of which civilizations that rose and fell will be included, at which point we get to see one of the Chinese dynasties briefly, as trebuchets launch fireballs at encroaching armies.

A brief look at the Mongolians follows next, as the daughter is seen riding horseback and firing arrows into the enemy ranks.

The timeline moves through dark ages, up through the age of sail, which will give Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag fans some feelings of nostalgia.

The cinematic moves through immigrants coming to America, the resistance fighting back against the Nazi forces during World War II, the fall of the Berlin wall, and eventually we see the daughter becoming President of a nation. As outlined on the Civilization website, the expansion is all about evolving through the different eras of human civilization.

The comment section on the video was less concerned with the content of the upcoming Civilization VI expansion pack, and more concerned with the fact that Sean Bean died... again. He didn't even live through the game's trailer. There are plenty of Lord of the Rings references and memes in the comment section, but beyond that there is some excitement for the upcoming expansion.

Civilization VI is available right now on PC, and if you haven't been playing the game but would like to catch up before the expansion drops, you can do so right now ahead of the Rise and Fall content, which is due to become available during the early first quarter of 2018. Sadly, I don't think Sean Bean will be playable in the expansion.
