Marvel may be best known for their cinematic universe these days, but that particular universe has a tendency to bleed into other parts of Marvel's massive pop culture juggernaut. Recently that has meant that characters from the recent MCU movie Ant-Man and the Wasp are joining Marvel's mobile brawler Contest of Champions. Earlier this month Wasp joined the fray, and, starting today, the film's villain Ghost is getting in on the fun.
Ghost has some pretty sweet moves and abilities. Her basic abilities include phasing, precision, cruelty, and fury. Phasing certainly makes sense as the character's ability to phase through matter is sort of the point of Ghost's existence. Cruelty is also something that certainly works, as Ghost is incredibly angry at the world and thus, is certainly capable of great cruelty.
Ghost has three special moves, Spectral Strike is a series of blows that culminates in a backflip. Exploit Weakness is a series of kicks to the chest that finishes with a dropkick from above. Relentless Onslaught sees Ghost phasing out to avoid enemy attacks before phasing back in to counter with her own moves. Finally, Ghost's signature ability is called Quantum Augmentation and it gives Ghost better control over phasing, and she gains power as her opponent's attacks miss due to being phased out.
Ghost looks like a fun new character with some cool abilities that will be worth checking out in Contest of Champions. The game has an insane number of playable characters that you can currently combine into your own unbeatable super team. And the best part is that Contest of Champions isn't limited to silly rules regarding film rights, so you can play as both the Avengers: Infinity War version of Captain America and Deadpool's buddy Domino in the same game.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is certainly one of the funniest entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the team behind Marvel Contest of Champions certainly is taking the opportunity to have some fun of their own. While it's not uncommon to receive promotional material in advance of new games and announcements like this, the coffee cup and posters I recently received were a bit smaller than I was expecting.
Tiny swag notwithstanding, the addition of Wasp, and now Ghost, to Marvel Contest of Champions will certainly be a big deal. The game is available on Apple and Android devices now.
