During a conference call regarding 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand, 50 Cent was asked whether he'd considered turning the game into a film. While the question was most likely sarcastic and the journalist probably didn't give a crap either way, 50 revealed that he was in fact planning to adapt a video game to the silver screen.
"With my relationship with THQ, they'll actually see me develop Saint's Row into an actual screenplay and into a film project," said 50 Cent (via Kotaku. "I'm optioning the rights for that right now, so they'll see that before they see me do it from my own perspective for my game."
Both games sold pretty well so they could maybe squeeze a few bucks out of the franchise. The thing with Saints Row and its sequel, though, is that neither really has a tight storyline. It's just a series of wars with rival gangs. There were clever gameplay ideas, like the minigame where you keep obsessed fans away from celebrities, but those don't really translate into a film.
Still, a Saints Row movie would certainly fare better than a film based on 50 Cent: Blood On The Sand. That game's plot centers around, I shit you not, 50 Cent and G-Unit fighting through a fake Middle Eastern country to recover a crystal skull. Blood on the Sand shipped today to North American retailers, by the way.
